Laboratory Technician – Rough Close Works

To assist the Laboratory Coordinator in maintaining product and environmental manufacturing compliance and storage and field activities associated with the core business at Rough Close Works.

This includes the sampling, testing, preparation and disposal of chemicals and explosives, assisting with inventory management for laboratory stock and equipment, assisting with ongoing research and development projects.

The role will also be required to provide support to other site and explosive engineering activities to meet the demands of the core business.

Role and Responsibilities:

Ensure all work is carried out in a safe manner, complying with the standards set.
Ensure good housekeeping in the laboratory and laboratory magazines.
As directed, carry out, laboratory testing of raw materials, intermediates, final products and materialsfor recycling to the required standards.
Assist with all environmental and effluent sampling and analysis.
Assist in the preparation of other chemicals.
Waste explosive disposal: Mixing of waste explosives, laying, and lighting of fires; keeping records ofexplosives destroyed.
Maintenance of laboratory stocks to include red bags and magazine stored explosives, ensuring thathigh standards of housekeeping are followed.
Test firing of Explosives. Assisting in demonstration for shot firing courses and other explosive engineering activities.
Assist with the review of COSHH assessments.
Assist with the review of risk assessments, reporting of accidents, incidents, near misses and unsafeconditions.
Assist with R&D and product related complaints and investigations
Assist with development of EPC-UK products through testing & evaluation of supplier products.
Take part in the review and development of laboratory procedures, work instructions & other related documentation.

Qualifications/education required:

A-Level Chemistry or equivalent.

Experience Required

1 year minimum in relevant function
Current Driving Licence

Specialist training

General laboratory analytical techniques
Use of relevant software (EQMS, MS Office applications etc.)
COSHH & SDS

Training will be provided for the following

Use of X- Ray machine
Laboratory preparation of emulsions and their testing
Handling and test firing explosives
Use of Handitrap / Microtrap and associated software.
Mixing explosive waste for burning
Laying and lighting explosive waste fires
Assisting with technical report writing
