    Job Description

Due to the ongoing expansion of our Nuclear Team in Westlakes Cumbria, we are looking to bolster our technical workforce and are on the lookout for a Graduate Civil-Structural Engineer.

We seek individuals who can leverage their skills independently and collaboratively as part of a team to execute projects that benefit our clients. The projects are diverse and multidisciplinary, spanning various stages of the project life cycle. From client advisory services to comprehensive turn-key solutions, our projects cover a wide spectrum.

This is a pivotal moment for our Nuclear Team in Westlakes, with a promising pipeline of international and UK-based projects.

The AECOM Nuclear Structures Team offers multidisciplinary consulting services to the nuclear sector, encompassing both new build and decommissioning domains. In the new build segment, we provide engineering assistance to the developers of the UK's new nuclear power stations. In the decommissioning sector, which necessitates substantial new construction for decommissioning purposes, AECOM supports the entire Nuclear Estate, including:

    • Multidisciplinary design support at Sellafield
    • Early-stage development of the Deep Geological Repository
    • Design and development of waste storage and disposal facilities
    • Multidisciplinary design support for defense projects

One noteworthy project is the Sellafield Pile 1 Diffuser Demolition, showcasing our innovative approach to a highly complex task in a nuclear facility. AECOM led the design efforts, ensuring a safe and efficient demolition strategy for this challenging structure, which involves various engineering disciplines and a focus on safety protocols.

Our Nuclear Civil-Structural Graduates collaborate with seasoned engineers who mentor and guide them throughout their tenure at AECOM. They engage in live projects, contributing to tasks such as:

    • Developing structural designs using diverse materials, primarily steel and concrete
    • Conducting structural analyses
    • Preparing design documentation like basis of design, method statements, and specifications
    • Gaining insight into highly regulated industries
    • Understanding Safety Cases and conducting designer's risk assessments
    • Collaborating with the project team, especially technicians translating designs into construction drawings

    Professional Development

Our Graduate Development Programme (ADVANCE) coupled with our extensive project portfolio worldwide will challenge and motivate you to make a real impact on our world. The programme is a cornerstone of our global business strategy, aimed at nurturing top talent across various disciplines to lead our business into the future. With over 750 graduates participating in our programmes in the UK and Ireland across 40 different fields, each contributes significantly to enhancing our environment.

We provide the necessary tools and guidance to help you realize your professional development goals, including pursuing Chartership with relevant international professional bodies. You will be encouraged to uphold high standards and are expected to pass your professional review successfully on the first attempt. A mentor will be assigned to support your growth, and you will undertake regular training modules during the programme.
