    About The Service

    An exciting opportunity has arisen to join the Inclusion Service, and play a supporting role in the implementation of the Additional Learning Needs and Education Tribunal Act (Wales ).

    The Inclusion Service is part of the Education and Lifelong Learning Directorate, and is responsible for ensuring the council meets its statutory responsibilities for children and young people with additional learning needs (ALN).

    About the job

    In this role you will work under the direction of the Post ALN Lead Officer to support the ALN implementation process for children and young people in Cardiff. You will assist the development of post support and planning for young people with additional learning needs by:


    • supporting schools and settings to plan and implement effective transition arrangements to further education and/or adult life;

    • supporting the capacity of schools and FEIs to embed whole school person centred planning approaches and inclusive classroom practice;

    • promoting participation of young people and their parents and carers;

    • ensuring appropriate and effective IDPs are in place for learners with ALN, in line with the ALN Code, Equality Act, regional and local guidelines;

    • liaising effectively with schools, FEIs, EPs, specialist teachers and health professionals to ensure effective ALP is in place for learners with LA maintained IDPs; and

    • ensuring appropriate Additional Learning Provision (ALP) is secured, maintained and reviewed.

    What We Are Looking For From You

    We are looking for someone who:


    • is a qualified teacher with experience of teaching and working with young people with
    additional learning needs (-);

    • has experience of working with parents/carers;

    • has experience of inclusive classroom practice and applying person centred planning
    approaches;

    • can use their experience to model and support inclusive classroom practice and person centred planning approaches;

    • has excellent working knowledge of the ALN Code and associated regulations;

    • has experience of developing and delivering training and evidence of a distinctive contribution to raising standards;

    • can communicate effectively with a range of stakeholders, including the ability to problem solve, and engage a range of partners in actions to reduce and resolve conflict;

    • has the ability to provide constructive advice and, where necessary, identify and challenge under-performance;

    • can manage their work load effectively and make appropriate strategic decisions;

    • has excellent communication skills both written and verbally;

    • can work collaboratively with other agencies to safeguard children and young people;

    • can analyse a range of data and evidence, and evaluate impact and effectiveness of ALP; and

    • is able to work effectively on own or as part of a team.
