    Description

    Belmond is seeking a Chief Engineer for a luxury train in the UK. This is an exciting opportunity for a dynamic leader with a passion for excellence and an unswerving approach to maintaining standards. The ideal candidate will take full control of all the maintenance and engineering required to safely and successfully set up and operate the train while striving towards Belmond's brand strategy of being the number one luxury travel experience in the world.

    About the role

    Based in London and reporting to the train's General Manager, you will be responsible for the Engineering Team, managing employees, contractors and support services in line with budget and operational standards. You will ensure the train is maintained and operated in line with ORR and National Rail standards and participate in required projects and improvement programmes to roll out new functionality, procedures, scheduling and reports. With responsibility for the budget, supply chain, accurate forecasting and delivery of maintenance, and economy of all utilities and resources, you will need to have excellent planning, communication and strategy skills.

    Requirements

    • Proven leadership ability and experience in coordinating different teams.
    • Previous experience with Mark 3 rolling stock.
    • Experience within the heritage rail industry – advantageous.
    • Relevant management or field/industry related diploma or degree.
    • Extensive knowledge and exposure to the UK rail industry.
    • Ability to compile, read and understand budgets.
    • Project management.
    • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
    • Strong analytical skills.
    • Good knowledge and understanding of UK rail operations.
    • Advanced knowledge of engineering and operation of Mark 3 cars.
    • Fluency in English, both written and verbal, is essential.
    • Ability to use initiative and be proactive.
    • Strong and effective communication and problem-solving abilities essential.
    • Ability to work long and irregular shifts.
    • Ability to travel.
    • Be available weekends & public holidays.
