Pastoral Support Officer - WMCA Contract


Reporting to:
AEB Coordinator (job title tbc)


Location:
West Midlands

(B-Skill are recruiting in the following locations in West Mids - Birmingham, Coventry, Wolverhampton, Walsall)


Salary:
Up to £28,000 per annum (depending on skills, knowledge and experience)


Position Purpose:


The Pastoral Support Officer will provide a range of face to face support to B-Skill learners including pastoral, welfare and safeguarding issues at various locations across the West Midlands.


Working closely with B-Skill tutors, you will help learners overcome barriers to engage with their learning programme and progress onto their next steps, improving interpersonal, communication, confidence, resilience and team working skills.

Experience of working in a pastoral context with learners is desirable.


Principal Accountabilities and Responsibilities

Include but are not limited to the following:

  • Be able to build positive relationships with B-Skill learners and have the knowledge, experience and skills to offer a wide range of support including pastoral, welfare and safeguarding issues.
  • Act as a first point of contact for safeguarding and welfare issues, including liaison with external agencies where required. Ensuring that safeguarding reports are up to date and accurate in line with B-Skill Safeguarding Policy.
  • You will be an advocate for learners to ensure that they have the support that they need progress to their next steps with the ability to remove barriers to learning, improving confidence, communication, resilience and teamworking.
  • Support the tutors in regards to learner attendance, by ensuring robust interventions are in place (and followed that lead to remove) improving learner attendance and behaviour in line with our Code of Conduct
  • To signpost & coordinate support from external support agencies when required.
  • Support with CEIAG about learning and work to improve learners' employability potential, achieve personal ambitions and help to their next step with the outcome of securing employment.
  • Encourage, promote and facilitate learner forums, support in developing and implementing action plans based on learner feedback.
  • Promote and support high expectations amongst learners.
  • Take accountability and responsibility for own Continuous Professional Development

Qualifications/Education/Experience/Skills Required

Qualifications, Experience and Knowledge

  • Experience of offering careers education information, advice and guidance, welfare and learner support is essential.
  • A good knowledge of Safeguarding, Prevent and relevant referral processes.
  • Experience of working with external agencies for safeguarding interventions.
  • Understanding of mental health issues and associated services.
  • Mental Health First Aider/Counselling qualification is desirable.

Skills/Competencies

  • We are looking for a person who cares about people and can demonstrate discretion and confidentiality whilst adhering to professional boundaries.
  • You should be able to stay calm under pressure.
  • You must be a competent administrator with a keen eye for detail and firstclass organisational skills.
  • Excellent IT skills including MS Office.

  • Driving Licence / Must have own vehicle and be willing to travel
