    Health & Safety Advisor

    CPL have partnered with Northern Ireland Civil Service (NICS) to recruit for a Health & Safety Advisor (SO Grade) to join their team on a temporary contract of 6 months, with possibility of extension.


    • Location – DAERA, VSAHG, Business Management Branch
    • Benefits – 37 days holiday per annum
    • The Health and Safety Advisor will report to VSAHG Management, and the key duties of the post include:
    • Providing advice and guidance to Senior Managers, staff, and others on who may be affected by the Department's activities on a wide range of health and safety issues.
    • Travelling to and undertaking Health and Safety audits of all Departmental premises within VSAHG and joint audits with DSD in shared buildings when appropriate.
    Monitoring accidents/dangerous occurrences reports and, where appropriate, conducting accident investigations.
    Liaising with Departmental HR and/or Departmental solicitors in litigation cases.

    • Monitoring Departmental risk assessment programme reports and, where necessary, undertaking specialist health and safety assessments outside the expertise of Departmental risk assessors including the provision of practicable, reasonable, and achievable solutions.
    • Keeping up to date with new Health and Safety legislation, Codes of Practice, Guidance Notes, and safety literature and advising on the measures necessary to ensure compliance with statutory provisions.
    • Assisting management to identify health and safety training needs, advising on all requirements for safety training and ensuring suitable training is available.
    • Representing the Health and Safety Team at various Departmental and inter-departmental meetings and conferences.
    Liaising with the Occupational Health Service, the Health, and Safety Executive (NI) and other outside bodies.

    • Drafting Health and Safety and accommodation circulars and other information on health and safety matters, and where applicable, undertaking appropriate consultation including TUS.
    • Undertaking and / or advising on appropriate environmental sampling, measuring, and monitoring.
    • It is a requirement of the post that the successful applicant will have obtained the NEBOSH National General Certificate in Occupational Health and Safety or equivalent.
    • At least three years' experience gained within the last five years of implementing health and safety policy in an organisation.
    • Experience of providing advice to managers and staff on health and safety issues applicable to statutory legislation.
