Technical Lead - Newcastle upon Tyne, United Kingdom - Rolls-Royce SMR
Description
Technical Lead – Containment and Severe Accident Systems Design
Derby, Warrington or Manchester/UK based – Hybrid
Salary £50,000 - £68,000
We are Rolls-Royce SMR and we're doing something that's never been done before. We're revolutionising an industry. That's a once-in-a-career opportunity for those excited by such a challenge. This is more than just a job this is a legacy.
We are now recruiting Containment and Severe Accident Systems Design Technical Lead to be involved in delivering an industry leading, cutting-edge design project for a new type of power station.
What we're looking for
Within this role, you will be responsible for the design of the Containment and Severe Accident Systems for the Rolls-Royce SMR. Reporting to the Containment Systems Group Lead, the role will involve developing fluid system design concepts through gated design reviews, providing technical guidance and supervision to a small team of engineers, and engaging with external stakeholders and regulators on the nuclear system design activities.
Confidence can sometimes hold us back from applying for a job. But well let you in on a secret: there's no such thing as a perfect candidate. If you feel you meet 75% of the requirements for this role, we would love to hear from you. Also, if you are considering a career move or a sector-jump, please get in touch, we welcome applications from people with transferable skills.
Key selection criteria for this role
We would like you to have experience or expertise in several of the following areas, but we do not expect you to possess all of them:
• Responsible for authoring and/ or technically checking high quality fluid system design outputs in the form of but not limited to:
o Requirements and interface management
o System Design Descriptions
o Piping & Instrumentation Diagram
o A functional Bill of Materials
o Fluid flow and Process Equipment sizing calculations.
• Provide technical supervision, guidance and coaching to systems engineers across the design team and develop a continual improvement culture.
• Technically represent SMR in interactions with ONR for assigned areas of responsibility, and support the ongoing licensing process including coordination of responses to RQs/ROs.
• Develop robust work plans to ensure on time delivery, cost and quality is achieved for all project deliverables.
• Understand the nature of the risks applicable to nuclear reactor systems design and performance analysis and make decisions in accordance with this understanding and the programme risk profile. Clearly articulate the risks and manage as appropriate with the Reactor Design Management Team.
• Ensure that quality is maintained throughout the SMR project lifecycle by progressing through appropriate technical reviews and providing the required inputs to the main project technical review gates.
• Manage interfaces with other technical functions on the SMR project (for example Power Station Design and Operations, Severe Accident Plant Analysis, level 2 and 3 PSA) to ensure that a coherent technical solution is achieved.
Pay and Benefits
A highly competitive salary is on offer along with a performance related bonus, very attractive pension scheme, and private medical insurance. You will also receive a flexible benefits allowance enabling you to create a bespoke package to suit your needs.

It will provide consistent baseload generation for at least 60 years, helping to support the roll out of renewable generation and overcome intermittency issues.

• Obtaining Baseline Personnel Security Standard (BPSS) clearance
• Satisfactory completion of a Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) check
• Satisfactory completion of a basic financial probity check
Your candidate experience is at the utmost importance to us. If you are not yet ready to apply but would like to discuss any of the above or require any reasonable adjustments (e.g. being able to apply in a different format), please contact to arrange a confidential conversation with a recruitment partner.
