Welcome to Cervus, a rapidly growing Small Medium Enterprise (SME) nestled in the heart of the South West. We specialise in experimentation, data capture, and training exploitation, leveraging a unique blend of technical expertise and real-world military and security experience – we pride ourselves on offering true end-to-end capability development within the defence and security sector, a distinction few organisations can claim.

Presently, we are in pursuit of a proficient Data Engineer with confidence and initiative, capable of both autonomous work and seamless collaboration within our growing team. As a key player, your responsibilities will encompass crafting, testing, and maintaining data architectures to propel specific product development initiatives and project requisites, all within a dynamic and high-paced setting.

In this hybrid capacity, you'll enjoy the flexibility to operate from home and within the office, adapting to the unique demands of each project. However, you should be prepared for occasional travel to customer locations in the UK and abroad, depending on project requirements.

Main responsibilities:

•Develop, construct, test and maintain data architectures.

•Perform data cleaning, wrangling, and processing on a variety of data sets.

•Use programming languages and tools to manipulate large datasets.

•Identify ways to improve data reliability and efficiency.

•Succinctly explain technical information to non-technical stakeholders.

•Working as part of the team in understanding the customer's needs and converting them to data insights

We expect you to have the following:

•Bachelor's Degree or equivalent in a relevant discipline and/or equivalent work experience.

•Knowledge of databases (minimum of SQL and NoSQL).

•Skills at using database architectures, construction of data pipelines, data mining, and an interest in machine learning.

•Experience in manipulation of large data sets – data mapping, migration, enrichment, profiling, logging and querying.

•Working knowledge of relevant programming languages (JavaScript, Python, R, Spark, Hadoop & Kafka).

•Experience with visualising data.

•A track record of delivering quality projects / work within agreed timescales.

We'd love you to have or be familiar with:

•Masters in a related field.

• Experience in manipulating, processing and extracting value from large, disconnected datasets using a wider toolset, e.g. MATLAB, Apache OpenNLP, MongoDB, NiFi, Java and C++ etc.

•Experience of Linux Administration and containerised apps (e.g. Docker).

•Working knowledge of new data visualisation styles (web-based applications or visualisations using JavaScript, Vue, and Plotly), and UI/UX challenges more generally.

•Relevant certification (e.g. BCS in DevOps, Agile, AWS, Azure, CDMP).

Salary:

£28,000-£40,000

Benefits:

S hare options, min 32 days annual leave (inc. bank holidays) which increases with service, 5 additional days paid leave for reservist,generous pension, health care, life insurance, flexible working, generous learning and development opportunities and awesome colleagues.

Location & Working Arrangements:

You may occasionally be required to work evenings, weekends, and bank holidays and will be required to gain UK level Security Clearance. Due to the nature of the work a driving licence is preferable.
