- Conduct research on the policy, technology, and economic factors shaping maritime transport and draw conclusions from your own research. Coverage areas include ocean-going vessels, as well as near- and off-shore vessels.
- Analyze the technology roadmaps and economics of vessels and operational efficiency improvement measures. Assess low-emissions and zero-emission technologies and fuels.
- Perform total cost of ownership calculations for different vessel classes and use cases, evaluate market conditions for the industry and how they are changing. Analyze shipping company business models.
- Analyze and quantify the impacts of various national and global policy frameworks targeting emissions reductions in shipping, including those of the International Maritime Organization and the European Union.
- Collaborate with colleagues working on renewable fuels, carbon, batteries and hydrogen to adapt their research findings to the needs of your analysis, communicate results and ensure consistency of output across BNEF coverage areas.
- Gather, generate, organize and analyze data sets pertaining to these topics and publish written research on your conclusions.
- Speak with industry figures and BloombergNEF clients to gather information and opinions.
- Address clients' questions in a timely manner and present the team's research to clients, prospective clients and at external conferences.
- Demonstrate an interest and enthusiasm for the energy transition, transport, low carbon fuels, the power system, and global affairs.
- Have an understanding of the shipping sector or related areas (such as fuel supply and logistics), through internships, interactions with industry participants, coursework, and personal study.
- Have experience with analytical tools and coding, such as SQL and Python (or similar), or a strong willingness to develop such skills.
- Have excellent critical thinking and strong quantitative skills
- Have fluent English and good communication skills: writing (for research projects) and speaking (for presentations).
- Be a collaborative worker who can work with a range of BloombergNEF teams that are based around the world.
- Act as a self-starter who can search out fresh information by reading into topics, setting up interviews with industry representatives and building the insights gained into research.
- Have a high work-rate and ability to work on parallel tasks with attention to detail.
- Have excellent working knowledge of MS Office (Excel, Word and PowerPoint).

You will be working as part of a global research team at BloombergNEF – the world's leading independent provider of analysis, tools, data and research to decision makers leading the transition to a low-carbon economy. Our data-driven research helps clients stay on top of developments across the automotive and energy industries.
The shipping industry is beginning a trajectory to reduce its CO2 emissions footprint, following recent policy targets, corporate initiatives and new technology development.
Our Commercial Transport team works closely with BNEF's oil, renewable fuel, energy storage, carbon and hydrogen groups to analyze and quantify demand for clean technologies in shipping, evaluate emission reduction policies, and assess impacts on maritime trade.
