    Workshop Supervisor - Woodwork Department
    An exciting opportunity has arisen to join the team at Jennyruth Workshops as a full-time woodwork supervisor. Jennyruth workshops is a productive workshop where we support adults who have learning disabilities to produce high quality handcrafted wooden products.
    You would be joining a wonderful team who support our workers to make a wide variety of wooden products which we sell widely throughout the local area and online. We are looking for someone who is already experienced in woodwork and the use of a variety of machinery.
    You will need to be a good communicator, have a warm personable manner, remain positive, professional and show sensitivity and empathy when dealing with workers who have learning disabilities, and volunteers. You will need to be flexible in order to meet the demands of this varied role.

    Please note that this is a 12 month fixed-term contract
    Salary £ PA
    Hours 37.5 hours per week Monday to Friday and occasional weekend working

    Job Description

    Job Title – Wood Workshop Supervisor Line Manager - Workshop Manager

    Job Purpose

    As part of our woodwork team you will -


    • actively observe all safety procedures in relation to use of workshop equipment by staff, volunteers, and workers.

    • develop workers skills by supporting them in their woodwork, personal development, and related activities as part of your role.

    • work with individuals and groups of workers encouraging them to engage in their work, develop skills to the best of their abilities as part of your role.

    Day to Day


    • Produce component parts for stock items to maintain availability for workers.

    • Carry out regular cleaning of machinery alongside other staff.

    • Encourage staff and volunteers to keep workshop tidy.

    • Maintain awareness of workshop safety procedures for staff, workers, and volunteers.

    • Promote careful use of materials to avoid excessive waste.

    • To monitor stock levels of consumables and put timely orders in with the office to ensure continuity of supply.

    Duties and Responsibilities


    • To participate in lunchtime supervision/door duty as per weekly rota.

    • To develop workers by supporting them in their activities when required.

    • To contribute to design and development of new products in conjunction with the rest of the staff team – once you become established in your role.

    • To represent JRW at external events

    • Attend quarterly reviews with line manager.

    • To attend weekly staff meetings.

    • To attend specialist training courses as deemed appropriate by management.

    • To carry out any reasonable request from management as appropriate.

    Person specification – Woodwork Supervisor

    The post requires someone who enjoys being busy and working to deadlines in order to meet demand. This person should like working as part of a team and on their own initiative when needed. The person will need to be a good communicator, have a warm personable manner, remain positive, professional and show sensitivity and empathy when dealing with other staff, workers who have learning disabilities, and volunteers.

    Qualifications & Training


    • Trained in working with a variety of woodwork machinery.

    • Basic IT skills

    • Experience of working with adults who have learning disabilities desirable but not essential

    Experience and key skills


    • Experience of working with woodwork machinery and a very good understanding and appreciation of how important Health and Safety in the workplace is.

    • Ability to work accurately with attention to detail.

    • Enthusiastic with a 'can do' attitude and real desire to add value.

    • Proactive and self-motivated with good time management skills.

    • Show an understanding of the sensitivities of working with adults who have learning disabilities.
