    Description

    We at Birkbeck, University of London, are thrilled to announce an opening for the position of Lecturer in European History (Medieval) to contribute to our expanding field.

    The School of Historical Studies at Birkbeck is looking for an exceptional Lecturer with a special interest in the Medieval period, to join the School this September, and teach 0.5 FTE for this coming year for 12 months.

    As a Lecturer in European History, your responsibilities will include:

    • Delivering high-quality teaching on the following modules:
      • The Medieval World: From Constantine to the Khans (level 4).
      • Space, Architecture and Landscape of the Middle Ages (level 5).
    • Supervising BA and MA student research projects and dissertations.
    • Supporting students on the MA Early Modern & Medieval Studies.
    • Engaging in public outreach linked to your academic specialism.

    The ideal candidate for the Lecturer in European History role should have:

    • A PhD (or equivalent) level in an appropriate specialism or be close to completion.
    • Good developing track record of research and expertise in the history of the Medieval period between late Antiquity and the fifteenth century.
    • Teaching experience at degree and/or postgraduate level.
    • An understanding of different teaching and learning methods and experience of working with students from a range of backgrounds.

    The School of Historical Studies, within the Faculty of Humanities & Social Sciences, is situated in the heart of Bloomsbury, London, and brings together research, teaching and innovation across History of Art, Museums and Heritage, History, Classics, Archaeology and Philosophy.

    Remuneration
    £21,183 rising to £24,212 pro rata, per annum (0.5); (£42,365 rising to £48,424 FTE). The salary, Grade LLEC, quoted is on the College's London Pay Scale which includes a consolidated Weighting/Allowance which applies only to staff whose normal contractual place of work is in the London area.
