    Weare recruiting a well-motivated doctor with Registrar/ Tier 2 level experiencein Obstetrics and Gynaecology to join our current on a 1 in 8 second on callrota supported by Consultant Colleagues.

    Thehospital is a busy DGH with around 3500 deliveries a year, supported by a level3 NICU. We have 18 consultants in the department, 8 FTE registrars, 12 SHO and2 foundation year 1 doctors.

    Theelective work is spread across sites in South Tyneside and Sunderland. We havean established research department with a consultant lead and midwifery andnurse team. We are regularly in the top sites for recruitment numbers.

    We have a strong training and teachingethos and have consistently positive feedback from the trainees attached to ourdepartment. There is also the opportunity to be involved in teaching andtraining both to junior doctors and medical students from Newcastle Universityand the University of Sunderland.

    Wehave a team of advanced laparoscopists who also train and teach and thedepartment now has access to a robot.

    Main duties of the job

    Werequire a hard working doctor who works well within the wider team of doctors,midwives and specialist nurses and allied health professionals.

    The successful candidate will see andplan care (supported by the Consultant) for in-patients, manage Labour Ward andattend Antenatal clinics including specialist clinics.

    Gynaecology duties include care ofin-patients, admissions to the Gynaecology Ward, perioperative care of patientsand out-patient clinics (including specialist clinics oncology,urogynaecology, colposcopy, and Office Gynae clinics). The Outpatients andTheatre sessions offer an ideal opportunity for teaching on a one-to-one basisand all consultants are keen to participate in what they consider an importantpart of their workload.

    It is a full 1 in 8 rota consisting ofstandard days, 12 hour long days and night shifts and is fully compliant withthe BMA rules.

    There is the opportunity to recruit tonational trials and become an associate principle investigator depending onexperience.

    The Speciality Doctor will be working alongside the specialist trainees on a second on call rota, with direct and indirect supervision from consultants in hours and indirect supervision out of hours. They will cover on calls, and work in consultant led theatres, antenatal clinics and gynaecological clinics. Depending on experience and career desires there may be an opportunity to further develop their skills in specialist areas.
