    The project
    Our client is one of the largest water companies in the UK, responsible for water and wastewater services in the northwest of England. Their purpose is to deliver their services in an environmentally sustainable, economically beneficial, and socially responsible manner and create sustainable long-term value for all. We currently provide the client with a range of services focussed on programme and project management and are always looking for opportunities to deliver more value through the provision of expert and experienced staff.

  • The Construction Supervisor's role is that of an inspector who tests and inspects the works for compliance with the contract, who manages the defects process, and checks and marks materials off site so as to safeguard the Employer.
  • The Construction Supervisor is responsible for quality assurance, specifically H&S, Environmental, Customer and stakeholders and the quality of the final built asset. The construction supervisor will be the first point of escalation for customer & third-party issues arising from the construction works.
  • The Construction Supervisor will be named as the Supervisor within the NEC3 Contract, and as such will have delegated contractual powers under the contract.
  • The Construction Supervisors will have no direct reports, however indirect reports will comprise:

  • Asset Integration Engineers,
  • Graduates and 3rd party testing organisations
  • Typically, £15M - £30M turnover / annum
  • Individual Project values will range from between £2M - £30M
  • Number of concurrent projects will typically range from 1 – 5 depending on size and complexity.

    You'll be responsible for:
    The Construction Supervisor will report to the Project Construction Manager for all aspects of work and from a functional perspective will have a link back to the Head of Delivery. Acting as the NEC3 supervisor under the contract.


    • Ensure progress of the works is on schedule and in being undertaken in a logical fashion.

    • Satisfying themselves that the contractor's performance is in accordance with the contract.

    • Reviewing the works schedule and method statements.

    • Ensuring the contractors resources are adequate and suitable.

    • Ensuring security, environmentally friendly and safe working practices are adopted by the contractor.

    • Ensuring quality procedures are in place and being followed.

    Monitoring execution of the contract against the contract and specifications.


    • Ensure that build quality is acceptable, escalating issues and discussing with the PCM where appropriate.

    • Ensure site meeting are held and documented.

    • Ensure site records are being collected.

    • Inspecting the works to check an acceptable quality standard has been achieved.

    • Inspecting the works to check compliance with the drawings and specification.


    • Managing Handover between the site owners and the contractor.

    • Reviewing construction and commissioning risks.

    • Liaising with the PEM ensure local construction knowledge is incorporated into the tender documentation.

    • Responding to site queries raised by the contractor.

    • Ensuring statutory approvals are being obtained.

    • Reporting to the PCM on progress and issues.

    • Production of the quality plan and review of quality assurance measures in the tender appraisal.

    • To manage the defects resolution process.

    • To issue the defect certificate at the end of the warranty period.

    You'll need to have.

    • HND and ideally working toward being professionally qualified (e.g. CEng, MCIOB, MICE, and MCIWEM).

    • APM 2 day certificate and CITB Site Management Safety Training scheme

    • Significant experience and track record of delivering construction projects.

    • Flexible leadership style to suit different situations.

    • Effective formal / informal communication.

    • Able to prioritise tasks & finite resources to deliver business targets / objectives.

    • Effective internal / external stakeholder management.

    • Contract management / commercial awareness.

    • Technical awareness / competence in either civil, mechanical, electrical or ICA.


    You'll also have

    • Full UK driving licence

    • Knowledge of building and construction management

    • Knowledge of the water industry standard specifications

    • Knowledge of products used for the construction and maintenance of water retaining assets.

    • Understanding of project lifecycles and asset management processes

    • Understanding of Construction (Design and Management) Regulations CDM2015

    • Understanding of New Engineering Contracts (NEC3 & 4)

    • Ability to work at heights and within confined spaces.

    • Experienced in managing construction sites and Contractors.

    • Experienced in using Microsoft Office suite of software.

    • Focused on quality and health and safety management.

    • Commitment to continuous improvement and innovation

    • Comfortable with working independently and as a part of a project team.

    • Excellent verbal and written communication skills

    • Strong personality, diligent work ethic and adopts a morally, leally, and socially appropriate manner
