Job description:

The Maritime C5ISR Support Unit (MCSU) is a Navy Command unit under the Chief Digital Information Officer (CDIO).

It delivers and supports command, control, computers, communications, coalition, intelligence, surveillance and reconnaissance equipment and information services to maritime deployed users.


Primary Purpose:

To act as the Establishment Security Officer (ESyO).

You will be the dedicated security specialist, whose role is to deliver against security requirements of both the unit and the Royal Navy.

You will be responsible to the Commanding Officer for the assurance of effective physical and information security in the unit.

Secondary Purposes:


In your secondary role of Establishment Configuration Officer, you will be required to identify, plan and manage the equipment and IT laydown of the unit.


Person specification:

Advise the CO on all security matters contained in JSP 440, NCSRs the Navy Command Security Risk Management Framework.

Security Orders. Prepare and maintain Unity Security Plans, ensuring that they are well promulgated, understood and observed.

Threat Assessment.

React to assessments obtained from MOD, PSyA or PJHQ on the threat to Unit security from espionage, sabotage, subversion and terrorism in peace and war.

Security Co-ordination. Co-ordinate all aspects of physical, documentary and personnel security within the Unit.

Co-ordinate the preparations for external Security Assurance Visits and Inspections by the PSyA Security Assurance Team and carry out actions required for Self-Assessments.

Security Incidents. Conduct initial investigations into all security incidents and recommend, where necessary, further action to the CO/HoE.

Maintain a record of all incidents and ensure that incidents are reported to Navy Command Warning Advice and Reporting Point (WARP) IAW Fleet Security Guidelines and PSyA's Security Awareness Notice SAN a dated 25 Jun 15.

Security Control. Maintain control of all security keys and custody of written records of combination lock settings.

Maintain accurate records of system administrators' login and password details and ensure that combination lock settings and security cabinet combinations are changed as required by regulations.

Security Risk Register. Produce and maintain the Ship/Unit/Establishment Asset and Security Risk Register.

Security Briefing of Personnel.

Ensure that civilian and service personnel joining the Unit are briefed on the Unit Security Standing Orders, local instructions and the prevailing threat, including actions to take in the event of a change in Security and Counter Terrorist Threat Levels.

Training. Organise security education and training within the Unit and maintain nominal roles of those personnel.


Identify, Plan, Create and Manage the Site Configuration Management Plan, to include a functional hardware inventory and software library of fixed site infrastructure, locating all wiring, junction boxes and data connections on a network schematic map.

To include all configuration documentation, schematics and inventory lists.


Maintain a directory of all system equipment and most recent, stable deployed software versions (including configuration files for switches, routers, file servers, database servers, and printers), review and revise all changes to the hardware inventory and software library by managing an archive.
