    Main duties of the job

    Healthcare Assistant - Children's Inpatient Department - 6 North

    Main Responsibilities

  • The primary role of Nursing Assistant is to work as a team member under the direction and supervision of registered nurses, giving clinical and clerical support to the multidisciplinary team, so that an efficient and responsive service can be provided for all patients, in all areas and clinical specialties within the Paediatric inpatient, day surgery and outpatient department.
  • The Nursing Assistant must be able to work on his/her own initiative, provide a safe and customer- focused environment, offering patients and their relatives a caring and supportive service.

  • NVQ or Diploma Level 3 in health related field
  • Committed to own personal development and evidence of regular attendance at training days
  • Achievement of assessor /Care Certificate training
  • Experience

  • Previous experience of working with Children in a hospital environment
  • Previous experience of working within clinical team
  • Previous experience of customer/ patient care
  • Skills

  • Good written communication and Basic IT skills
  • Ability to plan and prioritise workload
  • Ability to understand and undertake monitoring of patients' vital signs including PEWS
  • Competent in performing simple investigations & clinical procedures eg NGT feeding
  • Desirable

  • Venepuncture and cannulation experience
  • Personal Qualities & attribute
