We are looking to recruit a motivated individual to the position of Hospital Engineer within the Building, Engineering and Maintenance Department.
You will support the Senior Engineer, in close cooperation with other Senior Estates Engineering staff, with the responsibility for successful ongoing operation and maintenance of Cambridge University Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust premises and assets with a special emphasis on liaising with the Trust Projects teams and ensuring statutory compliance and a suitable environment for patient care is available at all times.
You will be expected to ensure that the Trust's premises and assets are installed, operated and maintained in accordance with the Trust's policies, DoH guidance (HTM/HBN) and industry best practice.
You will be the specialist in your field and have the responsibility in the absence of the Senior Engineer to make appropriate decisions to ensure the successful delivery of maintenance of the infrastructure required for patient support.
Assist with the development of infrastructure strategies across the Trust such as standards, introduction and implementation of new systems / processes and other policies for engineering maintenance, working closely with the capital projects, minor works and backlog teams.
Responsible for ensuring the assets are maintained in accordance with statutory and mandatory requirements and shall work with the Maintenance Team and contractors at all premises operated and maintained by the Trust to provide a quality service that is responsive to service and clinical needs and provided efficiently and effectively to the highest possible standards.
You will ensure that external Consultants and contractors working in conjunction with you are fully aware of the policies, procedures and standards of the Trust's Estates and Facilities Department.
Provide detailed professional technical advice to staff and contractors on issues that are complex and non-routine relating to the infrastructure and associated plant and equipment.
Monitor the performance of plant and equipment against commissioning data and operations manuals to ensure that it operates in accordance with the HTM's.
This will include re-commissioning control panels in accordance with HTM's and operations manuals as part of validation and verification checks to ensure compliance with HTM and relevant industry guidance.

Educated to or working towards degree level in mechanical engineering or equivalent level of knowledge and experienceEvidence of specific job related continuous professional development
Record of continuous development over a broad range of subjects such as legislation updates, technical development and innovation, management policies, sustainability agenda, etc.
AP / RP duties in one or more of Steam, Med gas, Vent, WaterEngineering experience in an operational NHS and/or healthcare estates maintenance environment with portfolio to demonstrate proven track record and wide range of expertise, including the efficient management of maintenance staff and activities
Experience of contract and subcontract management with a number of external organisations
Project management and process experience for capital projects and minor works, e.g. Evidence of negotiation and conflict resolution within an operational estates and facilities environment
Specialist knowledge of engineering and infrastructure processes and the impact that they have on the healthcare provision, particularly considering operation, maintenance and resilience of healthcare premises
Knowledge of the hospital systems for example: HVAC; steam and LTHW systems, medical gasses, etc.
Demonstrate an understanding of acute hospitals and the skills / competency to operate and maintain the assets appropriately
Knowledge of resilient systems within healthcare premises and emergency planning for the estate
Understanding of NHS project management tools, systems and procedures
Understanding of clinical relationships adjacencies within healthcare facilities and stakeholder consultation
Highly developed organisational and planning ability
Good IT skills including Microsoft Office
Ability to react safely and quickly in emergency situations with regard to estate infrastructure failure
CAD, PPM database and project management tools
