    An exciting opportunity has arisen across South Tyneside and Sunderland NHS Foundation Trust to recruit a self-motivated enthusiastic and dynamic Band 7 Community Team Leader, who is keen to develop and broaden their experience and skills within maternity services at a senior level.

    Our service provides Midwifery Led care as well as Consultant Led Obstetric services to ensure personalised care to all women throughout their pregnancy and childbirth pathway.

    The maternity unit offers a 24 hour 7 day per week service covering 356 days of the year.

    Applicants should be Registered Midwives on Part 10 of the NMC Professional Register and hold or be working towards a degree in midwifery.

    A flexible approach to working hours is essential.

    The Trust employs around 8,300 people and provides a range of hospital services to a local community of around 430,000 residents.

    We also provide a range of more specialised services outside this area, in some cases to a population as great as 860,000.

    We offer our staff outstanding benefits - Fitness Centre (SRH), libraries at both hospital sites, chaplaincy support and access to a Childcare Co-ordinator to help staff with childcare arrangements.

    The band 7 midwife has 24 hour accountability for patient safety and patient experience on their ward/department, including line management of their staff.

    They must deliver high quality midwifery care by ensuring appropriate systems and processes are in place to provide the continuity of safe and effective care at all times.

    They will act as a champion for professional accountability and standards, ensuring that professional practices are in line with the requirements of the Nursing and Midwifery Council (NMC), and Trust Policy.

    Ensure environmental standards and cleanliness of the ward/department/ community team are maintained in line with Trust and National standards.

    Effectively manage the ward/department/sector midwifery resource, ensuring that staff rotas are able to deliver safe and effective patient care.

    Supervising junior staff. Contribute to Trust wide projects as required.
    Ensure effective line management of staff and ensure they are supported in performing to their full potential. Ensure junior staff have appropriate support and supervision and are appropriately assessed.
    Experience of change management.
    Experience of working at Band 7 or previous team management.

    Current NMC Registration (Level 1 Midwifery).
    Mentorship qualification/equivalent and or Practice Assessor training.

    Management and leadership training.
    Evidence of leadership qualities.
    Awareness of national health and social care policy.

    Ability to provide and receive complex, sensitive or contentious information, where persuasive, motivational, negotiating, training, empathic or reassurance skills are required.

    Competent in the use of Microsoft office packages.
    Understanding of budget and financial control systems.
    Ability to assist patients to move as per Trust Moving and Handling Policy.
    Car driver with access to a car.
