    Description

    We are actively looking for a skilled Principal Design Engineer (Electrical) who is looking to further develop their career for the long term.

    As the successful Principal Design Engineer, you will be tasked with providing electrical system design within time and cost to meet the various project requirements. Technically supporting our major large-scale portfolio of projects through to completion by leading the electrical design & engineering (High Voltage and Low Voltage) capability of the team.

    What you'll be doing

    Key Accountabilities:

    • Designing electrical distribution systems (generally 400V up to 33kV) to construction detail
    • Creating and verifying the following engineering documents: -
      • Project & Equipment Specifications (e.g. Switchgear, Transformers)
      • Electrical Calculations (Amtech and either SKM, ERACS or ETAP) including Cable, Earthing, Transient, Short Circuit, Load flow & Protection
      • Reports and Plans including Design Plans, Operating Philosophies, Basis of Design, and Acceptance testing plans & reports
      • Detailed installation drawings including Single Line, Block Cable, Termination, Earthing and Layout drawings
    • Input to multi discipline specifications and design
    • Provide strong technical support and identify innovative and robust solutions
    • Develop and maintain relationships with relevant technical consultants and suppliers
    • Mentoring and further developing engineers (direct reports) and developing technical knowledge of the wider team

    Who we're looking for

    Key Skillset Required:

    • Proven prior experience working on mid-large scale construction / Engineering projects in a Principle / Senior Design Engineer capacity
    • Proficient understanding of HV network design - predominantly 3.3kV to 33kV
    • Technical capability and experience to evaluate and assure electrical materials & equipment and ancillaries
    • Strong capability and experience of loadflow, shortcircuit and protection analysis in at least one of the following softwares - SKM, ETAP or ERACS
    • Clear focus on collaboration and building relationships with other designers and Project teams to deliver cost effective and acceptable design solutions
    • Ability to communicate effectively at all levels and write clearly and succinctly
    • Detailed knowledge of codes of practice and other regulatory material
    • Experience in a broad range of heavy industries such as Petrochemical, Power Generation and Nuclear
    • Ideally Charted Engineer with suitable qualifications such as BEng or MEng
