    Description
    We are recruiting for a Psychological Therapist who wishes to our team. You should share our passion and drive to ensure that our patients receive quality and compassionate care. The post is based with the Mental Health Recovery Service on the Isle of Wight.

    The post holder will provide a high-quality specialist clinical psychological therapeutic service to People and carers who are referred to the Mental Health Recovery Service, and to assist colleagues across the whole Recovery Service in the management of people with complex mental health needs where appropriate.

    The Recovery Service works across several different pathways including Assertive Outreach and Intensive Rehabilitation, the post holder will be working with people who have complex Mental Health problems to promote recovery and improve quality of life.

    We are inviting accredited therapists from a range of modalities e.g. Psychodynamic, CBT to join our team as part of a multi-disciplinary community service.
    Main duties of the job

    If you are experienced in working psychologically with adults with complex presentations associated with community mental health, then this role will be perfect for you.

    The role is both varied and challenging.

    We are seeking someone who would be able to carry out assessments for therapy suitability, carry a small caseload for individual therapy, offer psychological consultation and clinical supervision to the multi-disciplinary teams and deliver teaching and training for staff.

    Duties would also include attendance and contribution to MDT meetings. Training in EMDR and DBT would be highly desirable.

    As part of the post holder development, we are willing to consider opportunities for further training in evidence-based psychological interventions.

    We have also been working with other local NHS Trusts across our region to create a new organisation, bringing together all community, mental health and learning disability services from across Hampshire and Isle of Wight.

    Subject to approvals, the aim is for the new Trust - Hampshire and Isle of Wight Healthcare NHS Foundation Trust - to be formed by April 2024.

    People employed in our community, mental health and learning disability services by the Isle of Wight NHS Trust on 31 March 2024, will transfer to the new organisation under Transfer of Undertakings (Protection of Employment) on 1 May 2024.

    Qualifications

    Post-Graduate doctoral level training in clinical psychology (or its equivalent for those trained prior to 1996) as accredited by the British Psychological Society (BPS), including specifically models of psychopathology, clinical psychometrics and neuropsychological, two or more distinct psychological therapies and lifespan developmental psychology.

    Formal post-qualification training in clinical supervision of other psychologists or equivalent experience.
    Knowledge
    Professional knowledge acquired through doctoral training, supported by short specialist courses & clinical supervision.

    Skills in the use of complex methods of psychological assessment, intervention and management frequently requiring sustained intense concentration alongside proactive engagement with PWLEs, families and other professionals.

    Well developed skills in the ability to communicate effectively, orally and in writing, highly technical and clinically sensitive or highly contentious information to PWLEs, their families, carers and other professional colleagues both within and outside the NHS.

    Skills in providing consultation to other professional and non-professional groups.

    Doctoral level knowledge of research design and methodology, including complex multivariate data analysis as practiced within the field of clinical psychology.

    Knowledge of broad occupational guidelines and legislation in relation to the specialist PWLE group and mental health.
    Evidence of continuing professional development (CPD) and knowledge acquisition as required by the British Psychological Society.
    Knowledge supported by further short specialist courses and experience.
    Physical Skills

    Use of computer/keyboard, driving for community-based work, use of psychometric test equipment, and training in restraint practices & procedures.

    Light physical effort for several short periods, sitting in constrained positions for extended periods.

    Ability to identify, provide and promote appropriate means of support to carers and staff exposed to highly distressing situations and severely challenging behaviours.

    Ability to identify and employ mechanisms of clinical governance as appropriate, to support and maintain clinical practice.
    Ability to develop and use complex multi-media materials for presentations in public, professional and academic settings.
    Abilities

    Experience of exercising full autonomous clinical responsibility for PWLE's psychological care and treatment, both as a professionally qualified co-ordinator and also within the context of a multi-disciplinary treatment/care plan.

    Experience of working with a wide variety of PWLE groups, across the whole life course and presenting with the full range of clinical severity across the full range of care settings including community, primary care, acute and residential care settings severity including maintaining a high degree of professionalism in the face of highly emotive and distressing problems, verbal abuse and the threat of physical abuse.

    Experience of teaching, training and/or professional and clinical supervision.

    Specialist experience gained as a clinical psychologist should be in combination with the advancement of skills and knowledge as outlined below.

    Communication Skills
    Experience of staff training, development and clinical supervision.

    Providing and receiving highly complex, sensitive and contentious information in an atmosphere where PWLEs can be hostile, antagonistic or highly emotive, where adherence to detail and accuracy must be meticulous since the strands of communication can be conflicting, an where there are significant barriers to acceptance which need to be overcome using the highest level of interpersonal skills.
