About the role:

To oversee development and maintenance of actuarial systems, models and tools used by the Actuarial Department.

To effect the timely and robust implementation of approved business requirements necessary to support regulatory requirements, new products, reinsurance structures, management information and external reporting requirements.

To improve the robustness and efficiency of the work of Actuarial Department through process review, system enhancement and implementation of an adequate control framework.

To develop and implement the Actuarial Systems strategy.


Role Description:

  • To implement and maintain the Actuarial Department Systems Strategy.
  • To lead and develop the Actuarial Systems team to deliver projects including managing the dependencies with the wider change delivery programme and IT.
  • To lead the implementation of business requirements into Actuarial systems, models and tools including product, regulatory and/or basis & methodology changes, delivering endtoend solutions by working in conjunction with counterparts in the IT and Data Delivery departments.
  • To deliver improvements to Actuarial division processes by recommending and supporting transformation activities.
  • To operate a systems maintenance programme and maintain regular engagement with the model users and drive continuous improvements in systems and processes.
  • To maintain a robust control framework for the development, management and release of actuarial tools, including appropriate documentation and compliance with relevant requirements.
  • To lead the provision of training and support to users of Actuarial Systems and ensure that developments are properly embedded into business processes.
  • Lead and manage the Actuarial Systems team, promoting capability and team strategy.
  • Develop a roadmap for development and production areas to deliver target end state.
  • Communication with key stakeholders, customers, auditors and risk teams.
  • Lead the implementation of new features to production through a robust model release cycle
  • Promote a culture of continuous improvement to engage and motivate the teams to improve the efficiency and effectiveness of the delivery of the functional objectives.

About You

Who we are looking for:

  • Qualified Actuary with significant post qualification experience.
  • Proven track record in successfully leading an Actuarial Systems team.
  • Leadership and influencing skills and excellent problem analysis and resolution skills.
  • Experience of or other actuarial modelling system.
  • Experience working with UK and European reporting regulation.
  • Query execution in SQL.
  • System configuration experience.
  • In depth knowledge and experience of Cloud Infrastructure, databases and clusters.
  • Exposure to regulatory reporting including Solvency II, Knowledge of IFRS1
  • Excellent verbal, written communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to present complex financial concepts in a clear and concise manner.
  • Detailed knowledge of insurance products and markets.
  • Excellent technical and IT skills with expert knowledge of development lifecycle and governance.
  • Proven track record in decisionmaking, able to assess materiality of issues and determine appropriate course of action.
  • Proven trackrecord of delivering complex projects.
