    Consultant Psychiatrist in Child and Adolescent Psychiatry Tees Esk and Wear Valleys NHS Foundation Trust

    The CAMHS directorate inNorth Yorkshire and York locality of TEWV is comprised of the two YorkCommunity CAMHS teams based at Lime Trees, the Selby team based at Selby Cabin,the Harrogate Team based at Dragon Parade, the Scarborough Team based at Lake Houseand the Northallerton Team based at North Moor House with a peripheral clinicin Colburn.

    This post will provideinput into Northallerton part of the North Yorkshire and York service.Specifically, this service is commissioned by the Humber and North YorkshireHealth and Care Partnership .

    It has a Single Point ofAccess service staffed by an experienced staff team who triage and provide atelephone consultation service to families and referrers. The SPA responds toall referrals and help young people and their families with the process ofnavigating through the options to find a service that meets their needs. Theservice works with a model of brief intervention to empower young people andtheir families in achieving good mental health and well-being. Staff job plansare designed to deliver services described in the TEWV Clinical Pathways, inorder to provide high quality evidence-based care.

    This post arises from aconsultant moving to another post within the locality.

    Main duties of the job

    The post holder will, with their consultant colleague, see allpresentations, requiring the input of a psychiatrist arising from the secondaryschools and their feeder primary schools within the Northallerton sector. Theconsultant would expect to hold a caseload of around 85 based on currentconsultant caseload and would be asked to see approximately 1 new assessmentper week. The service supports a model whereby all cases are co worked withother members of the MDT, care coordinator and lead professional role usuallyheld by a non-psychiatrist, except where there is a formal mutual agreementthat sole consultant input is required with other members of themultidisciplinary team.

    The Consultant joiningthe team will be expected to work in accordance with GMC guidance for workingin multiagency and multidisciplinary teams. The Consultant will be expected towork flexibly.

    The post will follow a 7.5PA (Direct Clinical Care): 2.5 PA (Supporting Professional Activities) jobplan. This will allow the post holder to develop a protected day each week topursue additional interests such as research, medical education or leadershipopportunities.

    Psychiatrists are essential contributors to the majority of our mental health teams. Service users expect and are justified to expect collaborative relationships with dedicated psychiatrists who work consistently as part of effective services. Our medical staffing shortage puts strain on services and puts strain on workforce wellbeing and costs extend beyond the financial.

    The Medical Directorate and Medical Development Team are striving to improve medical workforce recruitment and retention in a variety of ways and the cornerstone of these efforts is The TEWV Charter for the Medical Workforce. (Please see attached Supporting Document).

    Person Specification Qualifications

    • MB BS or equivalent medical qualification.
    • Qualification or higher degree in medical education, clinical research or management.
    • MRCPsych or equivalent postgraduate qualification
    • Additional clinical qualifications.

    Experience

    • Excellent knowledge in specialty
    • Excellent clinical skills using bio-psycho-social perspective and wide medical knowledge
    • Excellent oral and written communication skills in English
    • Able to manage clinical complexity and uncertainty
    • Makes decisions based on evidence and experience including the contribution of others
    • Able to meet duties under MHA and MCA
    • Wide range of specialist and sub-specialist experience relevant to post within NHS or comparable service
    • Fully registered with the GMC with a licence to practise at the time of appointment.
    • Eligible for inclusion in the Specialist Register or within 6 months of gaining CCT
    • Approved clinician status OR able to achieve within 3 months of appointment
    • Approved under S12 OR able to achieve with 3 months of appointment
    • Included on the GMC Specialist Register in the relevant specialty.
    • In good standing with GMC with respect to warning and conditions on practice.
