    CAD Technician / Surveyor

    £26,000 - £30,000 per annum (depending on experience)

    Staffordshire

    Permanent position

    A manufacturing company based in Staffordshire are currently looking for a CAD Technician / Surveyor to join their Design Department in a permanent position.

    This role would be ideally suited to a Product Design or Design Graduate looking for a career where the use of CAD has been an essential element.

    This technical role, for which you will receive job-related training, uses laser scanning equipment and software to facilitate the design and production of complex bespoke wooden assemblies, other timber parts, fixtures, fixings and jigs. The role also assists in other areas where CAD work is required.

    General duties will include:

    • Using captured survey data, create full 3D models using SolidWorks CAD system
    • Prepare CAD drawings for the production department
    • Visit sites throughout UK to liaise with clients about technical issues relevant to specific projects or to carry out site surveys (this may on occasion involve overnight stays and/or working additional hours to complete surveys).
    • Using Creaform 3D Digital Laser Scanning Equipment and Software, to carry out detailed site surveys and capture measurements for identifying critical points, surfaces and features for the capture of all relevant geometry of the working area as required
    • Stand in for and / or assist with CAM programming duties as required, to meet the needs of the department (training will be provided)
    • Review enquiries and CAD drawings to determine and create a list of required parts and prepare a detailed quote for the customer
    • The company will provide training on all aspects of the job, however, the successful candidate will require a minimum level of CAD skills as a basis for the position


    Essential Experience and skills required will include:

    • You should have a minimum of 2 years' experience of creating drawings using SolidWorks or similar CAD software such as AutoCAD LT, Civil 3D, AutoDesk Architecture, CATIA or 3DS
    • Have an extensive knowledge of drawing principals and geometry creation to enable effective CAD work
    • A Full UK driving licence is essential to travel and undertake site surveys
    • Be able to communicate and liaise professionally and in a friendly manner with customers and colleagues
    • Understanding of complex 3D and 2D technical CAD drawings
    • A solid knowledge of engineering design principles
    • A methodical approach to projects
    • Competent Maths and IT skills
    • Good communication skills
    • In understanding of manufacturing process and construction methods
    • Good problem-solving skills
    • Creative ability
    • The ability to work as part of a team
    • The ability to meet deadlines is required
