    About the Role

    We have a fantastic opportunity for a part time Young Parents Support Worker to join our existing County wide Teen Health team. Teen Health is a universal offer within the Family Help Service commissioned by Public Health to support the delivery of the Healthy Together Programme for 11-19 year olds educated in Leicestershire. Teen Health supports Young People in Leicestershire to make healthier choices, to sustain healthy, positive relationships and maintain good emotional health. This new, unique role is focused on supporting young parents within Leicestershire, in partnership with Family Help and Teen Health.

    Things you can expect to do in this role include:

  • Co-ordinate and deliver young parent support groups in each locality where parents under 20 can gain confidence in their parenting and develop key support networks.
  • Support the locality TBAG meetings and Baby Box project to ensure every young parent to-be has the opportunity to access support from Family Help.
  • Work with Health and Wellbeing Officers to identify school age young parents and facilitate their access of support.
  • Contribute to the quarterly data reporting on young parents to ensure that positive outcomes are being achieved.
  • Work with Volunteer Development Officers to develop Peer Support models for young parents and improve access to locality support.
  • Seek the voice of young parents to ascertain how they prefer to receive information and support.
  • Work with Family Help teams and partners to raise awareness of the needs of young parents, promote existing pathways of support and how to refer into these.
  • Develop parenting capacity, self-esteem, knowledge and confidence for young parents who come into contact with Family Help.
  • Contribute to the planning, preparation of material and delivery of training to groups of parents and staff from local agencies which will enhance and inform the support offered to young parents as a vulnerable group.
  • Attend relevant training and development in order to maintain/extend skills and knowledge required of a Support Worker in this role . relevant courses, meetings, special interest groups, shadow opportunities, reading, etc.
  • A DBS enhanced check for a regulated activity is required for this post.

    About You

    To apply for this post, you must:

  • Be educated to degree level or equivalent or able to demonstrate equivalent aptitude.
  • Have experience of working with parents in pregnancy and into parenthood with an awareness of the challenges and barriers for young parents.
  • Have ability to engage positively, build relationships and work creatively to engage and support young parents.
  • Experience with working 1:1 and delivering groups with families experiencing difficulties in parenting, including knowledge around child development.
  • Ability to work with a wide range of partners and professionals, building and nurturing positive working relationships for effective partnership working.
  • Have knowledge and experience of safeguarding procedures, identifying, and escalating concerns where appropriate and working as part of a team to safeguard.
  • Be able to prioritise and manage your own workload whilst delivering quality results to tight deadlines and have strong organisational skills with the ability to work on own initiative and within delegated responsibility and must have a full valid driving licence, unrestricted use of a car, and relevant insurances and be willing to travel across Leicestershire to meet the needs of service delivery a reasonable adjustment will be considered for an applicant with a disability.
