At the FT, we give all employees a voice so that diverse perspectives are heard and valued. We believe that a supportive workplace is one where employees feel they can be themselves at work. We'll continue to remove barriers for all, and in particular barriers facing employees from underrepresented groups.

    About the team

The Data Value & Strategy team's mission is to advance our data outcomes by ensuring that we are realising the full value of our data and analytical capabilities and assets.

    About the role

Over the next few years we have ambitious targets to grow the FT's global paying audience. This can only be achieved by fully leveraging and optimising the value of our data & analytical capabilities. We are looking for someone with a blend of business acumen and data domain expertise to identify and turbo-charge the value-drivers within the department, working across the entire organisation.

    Key Responsibilities

In broad terms, this role exists to:

Identify the highest value outputs from the Data & Analytics Department & create a process of continuous improvement through the delivery of solutions

Help the department optimise for the highest value outputs and align necessary stakeholders

Undertake/support the top level analysis of what is required to realise value

Partner with Delivery to drive initiatives forward and help coordinate cross-functional effort

It will achieve the above by:

Translating between the Data & Analytics department and business functions on how best to unlock value using our data capabilities

Maintaining a position of independence to guide the business to the best outcome for FT as a whole

Owning, refining, communicating and embedding our methodology for valuing data capabilities and assets - both potential value of incoming projects and realised value post completion. Analysing the gap between potential and realised value to find opportunities for further optimisation

Having a thorough understanding of what metrics represent the value drivers within each business area and ensuring Metrics That Matter (an internal initiative to simplify and clarify the metrics that power our business) is improving data-driven decision making across the company

Leading on the translation of growth opportunities & into a proposed set of activities to realise benefits

Making high value recommendations on how data can drive more value within the organisation (either new datasets or new applications of existing data)

Leveraging analytical and technical support from other teams to achieve the above

Confidently measuring the success of internal initiatives and using subsequent analysis to drive improvements towards team goals (i.e. data driven decision making, value capture etc.)

Questioning existing data use and workflows to better understand areas of opportunity

    The successful candidate should be:

Able to see the big picture opportunity but to also understand the detail and practical steps that can get us to the value whilst collaborating with analysts, allies & stakeholders alike

Comfortable challenging established practices where further value could be unlocked

    • Proactive to identify growth opportunities powered by data (new or existing)

Possess both an analytical and commercial mindset

    • Able to influence and inspire others across the organisation as well as confident and compelling when pitching to key stakeholders. Ability to communicate complexity and distil detail into clearly understandable concepts, no matter the audience

Strong project management skills and ability to measure progress of initiatives

An analyst looking for a more strategic challenge

A business analyst with a strong grasp of data

    A data product manager

    Something completely different

What's in it for you? Our Benefits

Our benefits vary depending on location, but we are committed to providing best in class perks across all our offices as well as an inclusive environment to develop your career. Examples of our benefits include; generous annual leave allowances, flexible working (including working from home), medical cover, enhanced maternity & paternity packages, subsidised gym memberships and Giving Back opportunities.
