    Job summary

    We are excited to offer a permanent role at Whittington Health, to provide clinical and strategic leadership to our Emergency and Integrated Medicine (EIM) directorate.

    This is an exceptional activity full of opportunities for personal and professional development. Due to the hard work of the current post holder, the EIM pharmacy team is expanding and now is an exciting time to join us and support the on going developments both within the department and at Trust level. This role is full of opportunities to demonstrate clinical and strategic leadership at Trust level and within North Central London

    As a member of the Senior Pharmacy Team, you will work collaboratively with the Deputy Chief Pharmacist in ensuring clinical pharmacy services are delivered in a safe and effective manner and will provide wider leadership to the entire pharmacy department.

    Main duties of the job

  • To develop a consistently high quality clinical pharmacy service to the Emergency and Integrated Medicine (EIM) Integrated Clinical Service Unit (ICSU).
  • To developing the strategic vision and roadmap for pharmacy services within this ICSU, taking into account the diverse skills of the wider pharmacy team.
  • To work closely with the multidisciplinary team, to develop pharmacy within the various specialities within the EIM ICSU. These will include Acute and Emergency Medicine,Gastroenterology, Respiratory and Cardiology.
  • To support audit and research within the teams and promote the use of Quality Improvement (QI) methodology at all opportunities.
  • The post holder will support the development of emerging clinical pathways that will exist within EIM and identify opportunities to promote integrated working with Community Servicesand Primary Care.
  • To act as a member of the senior pharmacy team and provide strategic leadership both within the pharmacy department and to the wider Trust.

    Job responsibilities

    We are really excited to offer this opportunity for a driven, confident and enthusiastic individual to join our team and lead the pharmacy services across our Emergency and Integrated Medicine ICSU. The main job description and responsibilities of this role can be found in the attached Job Description and Person Specification.

    You will be leading a team that is well-integrated into the MDT and has recently received additional investment in key clinical areas (SDEC, Gastroenterology and Rheumatology). You will have a pivotal role in supporting our team to work closely with our consultants. ward nurses and wider healthcare team. This post is an ideal mix of operational and strategic leadership and would suit someone that enjoys working in a fast paced, rapidly changing environment. It is also a great opportunity for a leader to work in a forward thinking department and have the autonomy to demonstrate their ability to lead projects and influence change. It will allow the post holder to truly experience the benefits of integrated care and demonstrate the opportunities that exist for this to develop in Emergency and Integrated Medicine

    Person Specification

    Education / Qualifications

    Essential

  • MPharm (or equivalent)
  • Registered with the General Pharmaceutical Council (GPhC)
  • Further post graduate qualification Diploma/MSc in Pharmacy Practice or Clinical Pharmacy, or equivalent
  • Desirable

  • Membership of the Royal Pharmaceutical Society
  • Independent Prescriber
  • Member of relevant professional clinical groups ( UKCPA)
  • Leadership or Management qualification
  • Skills and Abilities

    Essential

  • High-level clinical skills sufficient to engage in appropriate dialogue with senior clinicians around complex clinical cases.
  • Can identify a vision for the delivery of pharmaceutical services to Emergency and Integrated Medicine
  • Good written and oral communication skills and able to communicate with patients and all grades of healthcare staff (verbally and in writing).
  • Good negotiation skills and the ability to influence senior pharmacy and medical staff, the multidisciplinary team and management.
  • Experience of supervising and training junior pharmacists and wider pharmacy team members
  • Experience of providing education and training to pharmacy staff, nursing staff and doctors.
  • Good interpersonal and negotiation skills.
  • Ability to work in a fast paced, rapidly changing environment and prioritise appropriately
  • Good problem solving skills
  • Excellent numeracy skills.
  • Ability to evaluate and to plan service developments,
  • Understand, articulate and apply the principles of change management to the healthcare setting
  • Knowledge and Experience

    Essential

  • Demonstrates a whole-system patient-focused approach to work.
  • Understanding of current national standards, guidelines and service developments linked to areas covered by Emergency and Integrated medicine
  • Significant and relevant clinical experience from working in areas linked to Emergency and Integrated Medicine ( Acute and General Medicine and Medical Specialities including Gastroenterology, Respiratory, Cardiology)
  • Experience of managing and leading a team
  • Involvement in the writing of clinical guidelines, policies and procedures
  • Experience of appraising staff and giving feedback
  • Experience in education and training and acting as a clinical pharmacy tutor.
  • Significant experience of working in an acute hospital setting, with some of this experience at a senior level
  • Experience of managing and analysing drug expenditure, based on clinical activity
  • An understanding of how digital tools / EPR functionality can improve clinical practice in the Acute and Emergency Care setting
  • Desirable

  • Understanding of project management principles and the ability to demonstrate outputs from a project they have led
  • In depth understanding of the principles of Quality Improvement and change management
  • Understanding of the NCL pharmacy priorities and the NCL IPMO submission
  • An understanding of how integrated care can be developed within Emergency and Integrated Medicine
