    West Suffolk Foundation Trust are looking for highly motivated individuals to undertake a three-year apprenticeship in Operating Department Practice, study commencing September 2024. This developmental role allows a trainee to work as part of the team as well as study to complete a BSc (Hons) ODP programme approved by the Health and Care Professions Council (HCPC) and accredited by the College of Operating Department Practitioners (CODP)

    Main duties of the job

    ODPs are part of the operating department team, they are responsible for delivering safe, high-quality care to surgical patients during the three phases of perioperative care - anaesthesia, surgery and in the Post-anaesthesia Care Unit . You will train and work as part of a multi-disciplinary team alongside nurses, surgeons, anaesthetists and other professionals.

  • STAFF CAR PARKING

    Staff Car Parking on the West Suffolk Hospital Site is eligible for individuals working outside of the core hours, 07:00 - 18:30.

    For individuals working within the core hours, the Trust offers parking off site at the Bury St Edmunds Rugby Club, which is serviced by a regular shuttle bus to and from the Hospital. Details of the bus timetable can be found in the starter pack on the West Suffolk Hospital website.

    This parking restriction does not apply if an individual is required to work on a weekend or if they are required to complete "on call" duties within their role.

  • Ensure that effective communication takes place between patients, staff, relatives and carers as appropriate.
  • Ensure that all practice is in accordance with established procedures and protocols, and conform to the units operational policy.
  • Support and encourage the concept of team working and developing good working relationships within the department and within the Trust.
  • Promote and support multi-disciplinary teamwork in the delivery of high standard of patient care in the perioperative setting
  • Assess, monitor and evaluate the care needs of the peri-operative patient, gaining the comprehensive understanding of the patient's condition and reporting effectively to the appropriate person.
  • Report any areas of concern to your line manager and/or Clinical Team Manager
  • Act as an accountable practitioner taking every opportunity to sustain and improve knowledge and professional competence in all aspects of perioperative care.

    Education & Qualification

    Essential

  • Willing to enrol and complete an Operating Department Practitioner Apprenticeship
  • 5 GCSE's Grade A-C or grade 4 or above including Maths & English or Functional Skills level 2 Maths & English or equivalent
  • Level 3 qualification in Health and/or Social Care or 112 UCAS points
  • Evidence of recent study
