    Job Summary

    HMP Hull is seeking a Mental Health Nurse to offer mental health care in the Wellbeing Unit for patients.

    In collaboration with the Prison Service, we aim to deliver enhanced care to residents at HMP Hull and the male population in the Yorkshire and Humber secure estate.

    • Provide residents with capacity urgent assessment, treatment, intervention, and medication for mental health stabilization and recovery promotion.
    • Establish pathways with regional secure units for safe transfers and remission when needed.

    Main Duties of the Job

    You must be a Registered Mental Health Nurse.

    A £3,000 Trust welcome bonus is included in this position. The bonus is paid in increments: £1,500 upon joining, £750 after the first year, and £750 after the second year.

    You will be responsible for assessing and managing the caseload of referrals to the Wellbeing Unit. Conduct thorough assessments, communicate treatment options, initiate care plans, and provide evidence-based interventions with the multidisciplinary team.

    Tees Esk and Wear Valleys NHS Foundation Trust (TEWV) provides mental health and learning disability services in partnership with Rethink Mental Illness and Humber Teaching NHS Foundation Trust (HTFT) in prisons in the East Riding of Yorkshire. As part of the new Mental Health contract awarded to TEWV Health & Justice Services in 2022, we are expanding our service provision across HMP Hull and HMP Humber. HMP Hull serves as a Category B prison and the reception prison for the East Riding area.

    Qualification

    Essential

    • RNMH/RNLD or registered practitioner with current professional registration.
    • Evidence of Continuing Professional Development.
    • Clinical Supervisor.
    • Qualified practitioner in CBT, DBT, PSI, dual diagnosis, etc.
    • Key skills in literacy, numeracy, and ITQ level 2.
    • Non-medical Prescriber qualification.

    Desirable

    • Leadership or management qualification.
    • Post-graduate qualification in a relevant area.
    • Experience

      Essential

      • Extensive experience working with individuals with mental health issues in a community setting.
      • Understanding of the Offender Health pathway.
      • Collaborative work with service users and their families.
      • Skills

        Essential

        • Effectively communicate complex information to patients, carers, and the team.
        • Provide leadership, coordinate team activities, and prioritize tasks.
        • Work collaboratively in a multidisciplinary team and take on care coordinator responsibilities.
