    Job summary

    This is an exciting opportunity for a Consultant Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeon to join our Head and Neck team at Gloucestershire Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust. We are a busy unit with strong collaborative working relationships with ENT, Oncology and Dermatology. This is a fantastic opportunity to help the delivery of Oral & Maxillofacial Surgery service to patients of Gloucestershire and surrounding areas. We are looking to appoint a Consultant with a specialist interest in orthognathic & facial deformity surgery to join the established multi-disciplinary team. Other additional subspeciality interests would be welcome. The Oral & Maxillofacial department at Gloucester Royal Hospital is housed in a dedicated modern and well-equipped outpatient facility co- located close to theatres, a dedicated Head & Neck ward and on site maxillofacial is a full-time post. Job share applicants are also welcome.

    Main duties of the job

    Clinical responsibilities will include:- Undertaking outpatient clinics at both Gloucester and Cheltenham Hospitals with a main base at Gloucestershire Royal Hospital- Undertaking operating lists, with an interest in orthognathic and facial deformity surgery- To provide effective leadership to all staff engaged in the specialty- To sustain and develop teaching and research wherever appropriate- Having excellent team-working skills with the abilities and professional attitude to work well in a multi-professional team- To deliver clinical and quality targets agreed both nationally and locally with clinical teams and commissioners- To follow patients throughout their clinical pathways- To complete a 1 in 5 general on-call rota

    Person Specification

    Qualifications

    Essential

  • Full registration & a license to practice with the United Kingdom General Medical Council (GMC))
  • Entry on the GMC Specialist Register in Oral & Maxillofacial Surgery via: oCCT (proposed CCT date must be within 6 months of interview) oCESR or oEuropean Community Rights
  • MBBS & BDS or equivalent qualification FDSRCS & FRCS(OMFS) or equivalent qualification
  • Desirable

  • ATLS provider
  • ATLS instructor
  • Relevant higher degree
  • Relevant Fellowship
  • Teaching & Training

    Essential

  • Demonstration of a high level of clinical experience and competency in the field of Oral & Maxillofacial Surgery
  • Demonstration of expertise in the subspeciality of facial deformity
  • Demonstration of ability to work as part of a multi-disciplinary team
  • Experience of post graduate and undergraduate teaching.
  • Undergraduate and post graduate teaching experience
  • Desirable

  • Teaching qualification (PGCert/ PGDip/Teaching the Teachers)
