The post will rotate between General Medicine and Elderly Medicine.

The post holder will be expected to carry out their duties in accordance with an agreed timetable to include some early morning and evening work as well as a commitment to the acute medical on call rota.


The Division have a well-structured teaching timetable and there will be an opportunity to attend specialty specific teaching as well as a weekly medical unit grand round, a multi-disciplinary radiology meeting and PACES teaching (organised by the College Tutor and the RCP Associate Tutor).

All trainees and middle grades have an allocated educational supervisor.

  • The post holder will have day to day responsibility for patients on the ward and will take part in Consultant ward rounds.
  • The post holder will ensure that GP e discharge letters containing all relevant information are sent.
  • The post holder will be expected to give advice when required to clinical nurse practitioners and to advise junior medical staff where appropriate.
  • The post holder will ensure that case notes are properly completed, drug prescriptions are regularly reviewed, appropriate investigations are carried out and the results acted upon and made available for Consultant ward rounds.
  • The post holder will be expected to participate in the out of hour and on call rota which includes weekends and nights.

  • The post holder must work flexibly with colleagues to achieve the hospital agreed planned activity for inpatient and outpatient services.
  • The post holder must ensure that standards are developed through clinical audit, evidence based research and appraisal.
  • The post holder must ensure all inpatients are reviewed every 24 hours by a senior doctor.
  • The post holder will be required to participate in audit, the Trust's Clinical Governance processes and in CPD. Contribute to the development and maintenance of clinical protocols.
