    Default job background
    Description

    Production Engineer Analyst
    Glasgow

As a Barclays Production Engineer Analyst, you will operate skills to collaborate across disciplines, applying software engineering principles to eliminate repeated manual effort (Toil) and create automated, scalable and reliable services. If you would like an opportunity to contribute to the establishment of Site Reliability Engineering (SRE) practice/discipline within Global Technology Service Management, Markets, and help drive the agenda throughout the department whilst helping the wider team objectives, please get in touch.

Barclays is one of the world's largest and most respected financial institutions, established in 1690, with a legacy of success, quality, and innovation. We offer careers that provide endless opportunity – helping millions of individuals and businesses thrive and creating financial and digital solutions that the world now takes for granted.

At Barclays, we offer a hybrid working experience that blends the positives of working alongside colleagues at our onsite locations, together with working from home. We have a structured approach where colleagues work at an onsite location on fixed, 'anchor', days of the week, for a minimum of two days a week or more, as set by the business area (or nearest equivalent if working part-time hours). Please discuss the working pattern requirements for the role you are applying for with the hiring manager. Please note that as we continue to embed our hybrid working environment, we remain in a test and learn phase, which means that working arrangements may be subject to change on reasonable notice to ensure we meet the needs of our business.

    What will you be doing?

    • Contributing to the establishment of a SRE practice/discipline and help to drive the agenda throughout the department whilst supporting the wider team objectives

    • Helping to reduce Mean Time to Repair (MTTR) and improve stability

    • Driving Full Stack Observability throughout the department and role model how this can be used to achieve our objectives and reduce MTTR

    • Contributing to the adoption of Automation and help to role model how this can be used to drive efficiencies, consistency, reduce MTTR and achieve our objectives

    • Solving challenging and complex problems – preventing issues/problems before they happen to reduce customer or colleague impact

    • Contributing to company/team objectives and Compliance to audit regulatory and CSO Standards requirement

    • Driving technical excellence and accountability/ownership of the full stack that makes up our services.

    • Ensuring all application standard controls and requirements are being met and that any new services being brought to production have met the required level of standards and assurances

    What we're looking for:

    • Working knowledge of supporting and maintaining production environments with distributed systems and highly available services

    • Working knowledge of IT Infrastructure components (such as Linux or Windows Server OS, MS SQL or Oracle Databases, Networks, Load Balancers, Storage)

    • Understanding/awareness of Observability/Monitoring solutions (such as AppDynamics, Thousand Eyes, Splunk, ELK or similar)

    • Degree in information system or computer science or any equivalent and basic ITIL knowledge and solid knowledge of supporting applications on Unix or windows platforms
    .

Skills that will help you in the role:

    • Working knowledge or an interest in modern programming languages like Java and Python, working in either a SRE or DevOps model, or an understanding of what it means

    • Experience of working in either a SRE or DevOps model, however if you don't have experience but have a passion and a demonstrable understanding of what it means

    • Solid grasp of CI/CD Pipelines and Repositories, for example Jenkins and GitHub and ability to construct SQL queries and interrogate databases

    • Understanding of software skills such as design, development, maintenance, testing and software improvement – in an Investment Bank would be an advantage

    Where will you be working?
Our new state-of-the-art Campus, right in the heart of Glasgow is a hub of creative collaboration. A place where everyone can bring their true selves to work and reach their full potential. Home to 5,000 of our colleagues, our Tradeston campus will support the community in more ways than one - by creating thousands of new career opportunities and celebrating local artists. A short walk from Central Station on the south of the Clyde, it will be a key location for the Barclays business that will deepen our ties with the city and its communities.
