    An exciting opportunity has arisen for a band 6 Junior Sister or Charge Nurse to join the team on Eleanor Frailty unit .

    You would be someone who wants to improve quality and provide outstanding patient care and to ensure that our patient experience is one of the best.

    Eleanor Frailty unit is a 12 bedded .

    This is an exciting opportunity for an enthusiastic and motivated individual to be part of an dynamic team in delivering excellent care and standards to our patients, and part of a team that is driven in supporting its nursing and multidisciplinary teams.


    This is a 12 month seconded post covering maternity leave, which is a strong opportunity to enhance skills and experience within the band 6 role.

    You will help to manage the day to day running of this Eleanor Frailty Unit for our inpatients and act as a resource for patients, relatives and staff.

    You will work within the Multidisciplinary Team to produce an efficient and safe, and well led area for patients to receive high quality care.

    The post holder supports the Ward Manager in the general management of the clinical environment, ensuring that a quality service is provided.

    They will oversee a team of Nurses and Healthcare Assistants, monitoring their professional development through carrying out KSF IPRs.

    Act as an effective role model and resource/advisor to colleagues, in the delivery of nursing care.


    Provide clinical nursing expertise and supervision of all grades of staff within the ward, to ensure a high standard of care.


    Supervise the assessing, planning, implementation and evaluation of patient care, thus providing high standards of patient care at all times.

    Ensure that the care given reflects the hospital and departmental philosophies, standards and protocols.

    Advise patients, relatives and friends as appropriate on the promotion of health and prevention of illness.

    Assist the Ward Manager in monitoring and appraising the performance of staff within their sphere of responsibility.

    Supporting Financial Excellence

    Be aware of the budgetary requirements within their clinical areas of nursing.

    Be responsible for their own development, maintaining a professional portfolio and keeping themselves updated on current nursing issues.


    Will be responsible for their own actions and be bound by the NMCs Code of Professional conduct and all approved Trust policies.

    Quality Assurance and Monitoring

    To undertake audits within the ward regarding all aspects of care (Saving lives, Safety thermometer etc)

    Help to develop methods at ward level to monitor standards of care in liaison with the Ward Manager.

    Policy and Service Development Responsibilities

    Educations, Training and Qualifications
    Current Registered Nurse with the NMC
    Able to evidence recent and continuing professional development relative to the department
    Experience within acute medicine

    Counselling or coaching skills/qualification
    Undertaken band 6 development programme

    Demonstrates awareness of current changes in the NHS - in particular related to nursing.
    Has participated in clinical governance, research and audit.
    Managing and supporting staff and patients through the complaints, compliments and concerns process
    Experience of managing a team and staff performance
    Demonstrate evidence of publication/presentation of project findings
    Experience of financial management.
    IT competent using work and excel.

    A strong desire and ability to lead the assessment unit and can adopt leadership styles to meet the needs of staff
    Ability to work under pressure and seek help when required
    Must be able to demonstrate understanding of, and behaviours consistent with the NMC code
