    Job overview

    The Behaviour Support Team delivers a highly specialist Positive Behaviour Support service to people with a learning disability who present with complex and challenging needs.

    An exciting opportunity has arisen within our Behaviour Support Team for an individual who wants to make a positive difference to the lives of people with learning disability who have complex and challenging needs.

    We are looking for an outstanding and aspirational nurse to work collaboratively with the specialist MDT, primary stakeholders and co-productively with people with learning disabilities, to design and effectively implement a range of tailored Positive Behaviour Support strategies.

    Main duties of the job

    The successful candidate will manage a caseload and will complete and implement a range of evidence based specialist assessments and interventions that are guided by and built around the strengths, challenges, needs and interests of those requiring support. Interventions will focus on enhancing quality of life, promote personal skill development and reduce and eliminate the use of restrictive practices.

    This ambitious model is multi-agency and multi-disciplinary, opening the door for you to work in a collaborative and flexible way with partners, service users, carers and their families.

    Detailed job description and main responsibilities

  • Facilitate the pro-active implementation of the Positive Behaviour Support pathway within Learning Disability services
  • To work as a team member within the Behaviour Support Team, the wider multidisciplinary team and a range of stakeholders
  • To work collaboratively with the service users, carers and families.
  • To provide a safe and specialist service recognising own professional limitations.
  • To deliver a high quality, meaningful and safe service in line with CQC and NICE standards.
  • To hold and manage a complex case load that requires the provision of specialist assessments; formulation; implementation and evaluation of measurable interventions, that are supported by robust risk assessments and detailed Positive Behaviour Support plans
  • To maintain clear and contemporaneous records of all case work, using approved electronic and non-electronic recording systems.
  • Engage with and feedback outcomes to a range of stakeholders whilst maintaining appropriate levels of confidentiality
  • To deliver specialist training.
  • To work within legal parameters, having a working knowledge of relevant legislation.
  • To work within the guidance of the Trust/local 'Lone Working' policy, using agreed 'report & confirm' systems.
  • To actively participate in regular clinical and management supervision with Team Lead
  • To support and supervise junior staff
  • To actively participate and complete revalidation as required by the NMC
  • Actively participate in own and others appraisal and ensure objectives and work plans are met.
  • To ensure contractual activity and Trust targets are completed within set time parameters.
  • To comply with all Mandatory and Statutory training requirements.
  • Assessment and supervision of student nurses and other learners.
  • To actively contribution to the clinical governance infrastructure, service development and improvement, audit and research within the Learning Disability services.
  • To undertake any other duties of a similar nature consistent with the responsibilities of this post in order to provide a quality Learning Disability service.
