Principal Scientific Consultant - United Kingdom - Egis Group

    Egis Group
    Default job background
    Description

For over 30 years Galson Sciences Limited has been providing Consultancy and Research expertise to nuclear sector clients worldwide. We specialise in radioactive waste management, surface/near surface, geological disposal and decommissioning end states. In April 2021 Galson Sciences Limited joined the Egis Group. The merger has created excellent synergies, expanding the range and depth of experience offering in support of radioactive waste management solutions in the UK, in France and abroad, and the company is growing rapidly.

Egis Group is a leading global consulting, construction engineering and operating firm. With a workforce of over 16,000 strong, across all corners of the globe, we work together with our clients, across every aspect of transport, energy and the built environment to build a more balanced, sustainable and resilient world.

In the UK we're proud to be delivering some of the most iconic projects which help connect people, protect our environment, and meet emission reduction targets. From motorways to tramways, nuclear power plants to smart cities, clients choose us to help them solve their most complex challenges - delivering climate-responsible growth that meets the needs of communities, industry, and the planet.

We are looking for a Principal Scientific Consultant to join our team of technical experts in a multi-faceted role including technical research, project management and business development.

Providing services to clients on an international basis, you'll deliver high-quality research projects in nuclear decommissioning, radioactive waste management and disposal. Building and maintaining strong client and project team relationships is an important part of this role.

    Key responsibilities will include:

    • High-quality report writing and delivering research on geological disposal of radioactive waste.
    • Presenting research and findings to clients and at conferences and facilitating technical workshops/discussions.
    • Business development in your areas of expertise.
    • Project management in accordance with company standards and guidelines (training provided).
    • Line management of a small team of consultants (training provided).
    • Ensuring activities in your business area are conducted in a timely and cost-effective manner.

    Profile

    • PhD or MSc in quantitative earth sciences, applied mathematics, physics, chemistry or engineering or a BSc along with proven radioactive waste management experience.
    • Ability to deliver high-quality proposals and technical work with excellent attention to detail, within tight deadlines.
    • Excellent time management, prioritisation and problem-solving skills.
    • Excellent presentation, interpersonal and communication skills, using English language.
    • Project and contract management experience.
    • Business development in your areas of expertise.

    Desirable skills and experience:

    • Nuclear industry experience, and in particular radioactive waste treatment, disposal, options assessment, nuclear safety and related fields.
    • Modelling, particularly with respect to site characterisation, groundwater flow, gas transfer, and/or contaminant transport in geological media (e.g. GoldSim, COMSOL).
    • Criticality safety assessments; radiological risk assessment; and/or environmental safety case development.
    • Staff well-being, such as line management or mentoring.

To apply, please provide your CV and a Cover Letter expressing your interest and suitability for the role.

Successful candidates will be asked to complete a Baseline Personnel Security Standard Pre-Employment check and will be required to undergo various checks: Right to Work permanently in the UK, Employment/Education History and Criminal Record. If you are unable to meet these and any associated criteria, then your employment may be delayed or rejected.

    Diversity & Inclusion

We are an Equal Opportunities employer and we strive to build a workforce that truly reflects the communities we represent. We welcome candidates from all backgrounds, regardless of age, disability, gender, gender identity, gender expression, race, religion or belief, sexual orientation, socioeconomic background, and any other protected characteristic. If you decide to apply for an opportunity with us, your application will be assessed based purely on your experience, the essential and desirable criteria, and your suitability for the role. We value each and every one's contribution as this builds our culture and means that if you work with us, you will be included, listened to, and respected.
