    Band 6, Part Time - 30 hours Permanent post


    An exciting opportunity has arisen at Wythenshawe Hospital, Manchester University NHS Foundation Trust (MFT) for a Macmillan Acute Oncology (AO)/Cancer of Unknown Primary (CUP) Associate Nurse Specialist.

    The service is a 7 day service delivery model, with extended hours of working (8am-6pm) Monday-Friday.


    The post holder will be part of the Macmillan Acute Oncology Team and will be expected to provide detailed specialist care and knowledge to the patient and their carers.

    Act as a source of specialist advice in the nursing management of patients in their specialist area who require a high level of judgement, discretion and decision making whilst as an in-patient/outpatient or in a setting external to the Trust.


    They will act as a key worker in the identification of patients with CUP or Malignancy of Unknown Origin (MUO) and ensure these patients are presented at CUP MDT, in line with local Network guidelines and policy.


    The Macmillan AO/CUP Clinical Nurse Specialist will lead in audit and research, will provide teaching and education to healthcare professionals within Wythenshawe Hospital, which will include AO medical emergencies and raising the profile of CUP.


    They will need excellent communication skills and have experience of caring for people with cancer, chemotherapy experience is an advantage for this role.

    Assess, plan, prioritise, implement, and evaluate nursing interventions to meet patient's needs.

    Undertake comprehensive health care needs of patients, changing treatment plans as necessary.


    Provide psychological support for individuals and carers, identifying and involving the appropriate multi-disciplinary services in order to ensure that the individual needs of the patient are met.


    Provide specialist care , knowledge, and expertise, whilst being continually aware of the importance of empowering colleagues to ensure dissemination of knowledge and best practice.

    Attend Consultant led Out-Patient Clinics, manage and report on cases (as appropriate to the role).


    Run nurse / midwife led clinics ( as appropriate to the role).Provide highly specialist advice on the phone, liaising with general practitioners, district nurses and hospital medical teams as appropriate.

    To take a lead role in the organisation and management of multi-professional patient care.

    Support the specialist service to patients attending the hospital
