    Digital Engagement Officer, Government Art Collection - London, United Kingdom - UK Civil Service

    Job summary

    The Government Art Collection is seeking a Digital Engagement Officer with experience of working with social media platforms, ideally in a museum or visual arts context, and an appetite for developing rich digital content.

    You will be able to source and tailor content to specific digital platforms. You will be creative, with good attention to detail, a passion for innovative video content and a good understanding of internet culture.

    Sitting within the Collection Information Team, this is a new role that is managed by the Digital Engagement Manager. This is an exciting time to join the Government Art Collection, as we approach our 125th Anniversary in December 2024. This role will play a key part in the development of dynamic and engaging content for the campaign, amongst the day to day delivery of the Collection�s Digital Strategy.

    Job description

    Social media:

  • Produce and co-ordinate day-to-day social media posts (including on Instagram, X/Twitter, Facebook, LinkedIn and new platforms), maintaining the Collection�s tone of voice and engaging our audiences
  • Respond to audience enquiries on the Collection�s social media channels as appropriate and highlight sensitive topics to the Digital Engagement Manager
  • Support on reporting and analysis of the GAC�s performance across social media
  • Advise on new social media channels and trends
  • Marketing and engagement:

  • Support on digital campaigns to promote engagement with the Government Art Collection�s activities and collection to a range of audiences in collaboration with colleagues
  • Digital content production:

  • Ensure the Government Art Collection�s website is kept up-to-date, with content that provides access to the Collection and engages our audiences
  • Contribute to the creation of impactful and original digital content including short-form videos and website articles
  • Ensure adherence to Government Art Collection�s style guide and brand guidelines, and maintain the Collection�s tone of voice
  • Advise on new digital developments
  • Other responsibilities:

  • Support in processing artist/artist estate rights, including contacting artists, estate holders and copyright holders to ensure image permissions are up to date
  • Represent the Collection at external meetings and events as required
  • Person specification

    The ideal candidate would have the following key skills and experience:

    Essential requirements:

  • Experience of working on a variety of social media platforms, ideally in a museum or arts context
  • Digital skills in image and audio-visual editing (eg. Adobe Photoshop, Premiere or similar)
  • Experience in writing, editing and optimising engaging text for online audiences
  • Personable and excellent team player, able to work both autonomously and collaboratively
  • A willingness to work out of hours and flexibly when campaigns are running
  • Desirable skills:

  • Working knowledge of digital management dashboards (Hootsuite, Buffer, SproutSocial etc.)
  • An understanding of meme and internet cultures
  • Working knowledge of Wordpress or equivalent
  • Knowledge of UK copyright law in relation to how it concerns UK museums
  • Experience working with collection management databases
  • A full understanding of EDI (Equity, Diversity and Inclusion) issues and a commitment to inclusivity and sustainability
