Finance Support Consultant

Home based (remote delivery across the country)

Full / Part time, Permanent

£28,000 to £34,000 FTE per annum (pro rata) depending on qualifications & experience.

skilled finance professional or
successful School Business Manager who can provide targeted financial advice for our customers.

You will focus on strategic and day to day financial tasks, working with Schools and Academies, using a wide variety of financial software systems.


Who are we?


A national company based in central Chelmsford, Juniper Education provides software support services and professional services to the education sector, currently used by over 4,200 schools, academies & MATs across the country.

This role is within our Education Finance Support team.

Our team's mission is to empower schools to manage their finance resources effectively, and we help them by providing high quality professional financial management services.


The Role


After training you will have your own client portfolio and will manage your customer's needs and expectations, ensuring they meet statutory deadlines.


Some key responsibilities will include:

  • Budget preparation and forward financial planning, including liaising with Headteachers/Business Managers/Finance Managers and governing bodies, using influencing and negotiating skills.
  • Budget monitoring, and cashflow
  • Governor/trustee reporting
  • One to one training of school finance staff
  • Yearend accounting and other statutory returns
  • Monthly bursar finance tasks i.e. reconciliation of funding, bank accounts, payroll, VAT claims.
  • Providing advice and guidance to finance staff, headteachers, governors/trustees


As we are able to deliver the majority of our service via remote access, you will be able to work from home, but we do require flexibility to meet our business needs so you must be prepared to travel when on-site visits are necessary; a full driving licence and daily access to own vehicle is therefore an essential requirement.

Who you are:

Ideally, you'll have an accounting qualification from either ACCA, ACA, CIMA, CIPFA, AAT or a close equivalent. If you also have a CIPFA (Certificate in Financial Reporting for Academies) then this would be an advantage.


However, we will consider applicants with School Business Management qualifications (CSBM or DSBM) or considerable financial experience at a responsible level; school finance experience would be an advantage.

A clean driving license and daily access to your own vehicle are essential.

You will need solid knowledge of MS Office programmes including Word, Excel and Powerpoint.

We work with a number of school and academy software packages and experience with systems such as PS Financials, FMS6 & SIMS would be an advantage, although training will be provided.


You don't need to know about the education sector to start with, as you will be fully trained, but school/academy experience would be an advantage.
