    Job summary

    We are looking to recruit two full-time enthusiastic Clinical Psychologists to join our supportive Paediatric psychology team to serve the needs of young people and their families with long term conditions.

    We would consider part-time hours of or more. The Healthy Futures service has a wte role, to work within a MDT team specialising in young people with complications of excessive weight, and this could be combined with another specialty according to the service needs and candidates skills (NICU/Rheumatology) in order to make a full-time post. We also have an Epilepsy and IBD gastro-enterology post, the later specializing in Ulcerative Colitis and Chron's disease. For all of the long-term condition teams, You will work with patients and their families on psychological issues, the impact of condition and management.

    As well as assessment and therapy for families, you will offer advice, consultation and training to the wider team. It is essential that you are a strong team player, working well as an integrated part of different multidisciplinary teams, which may consists of Consultant Physicians, specialist nurses, dieticians, social workers, physiotherapists and pharmacists. The work will include individual and family appointments, in-patient work, multi-disciplinary liaison, consultation to the wider team, research and service development.

    Main duties of the job

    The post will include outpatient and inpatient work with children and their carers; and liaising with MDT colleagues to assess and treat psychological issues arising from the long-term condition. Within the Healthy Future and Epilepsy services there are exciting opportunities to help develop and shape the service. You will have opportunities to supervise colleagues, trainees, work with initiatives within the wider department and complete audit and research projects.

    There will be opportunities to have a Clinical Psychology trainee, if appropriate for your stage of qualification.

    Job responsibilities

    Although this is a band 8A post, it is also open to newly qualified psychologists as a band 7 as part of our 18 month preceptorship. Newly qualified staff who are yet to be HCPC registered would temporarily be appointed on Band 6. Experience in Paediatrics is desirable but not absolutely necessary, but a passion for working with children, young people and their families is essential.

    This is an exciting opportunity to join a vibrant, friendly and supportive psychology and multi-disciplinary team in the Paediatric Department at the Norfolk and Norwich Hospital. We have a team of Clinical Psychologists working in the Paediatric specialties of Diabetes, Gastroenterology, Cystic Fibrosis, Oncology, Rheumatology, NICU and Childhood excessive weight; with ambition to expand.

    There are strong links with the Doctorate programme at the University of East Anglia. The NNUH is committed to strengthening its specialist services across the range of acute services, including developing the as a regionally recognised tertiary childrens Hospital.

    Qualifications

    Essential

  • Post-graduate doctorate (or its equivalent for those trained prior to 1996) in Clinical Psychology
  • Registration with the HCPC as a Practitioner Psychologist
  • Experience

    Essential

  • Experience of exercising full clinical responsibility for clients' psychological care and treatment, both as a professionally qualified care coordinator and also within the context of a multidisciplinary care plan.
  • Skills

  • Skills in the use of complex methods of psychological assessment intervention and management frequently requiring sustained and intense concentration.
