    Job summary

    This is an exciting opportunity for a substantive role working across adult Pain Management and Paediatric Rheumatology services. The combined child/adult post would be ideal for a Clinical Psychologist wishing to branch into clinical health psychology with some overlap in specialties across child and adult services

    Pain Management

    We are looking for someone to join our team of Psychologists, working within an established and supportive multi-disciplinary team in the Pain Management service at Norfolk and Norwich Hospital. The team comprises of 4 Psychologists, an Assistant Psychologist, 3 Physiotherapists, an Occupational Therapist, 5 Consultants and 7 specialist Nurses. We also have a supportive administration and secretarial team

    Paediatric Rheumatology

    To complement the Pain post, there is an opportunity for a Clinical Psychologist to join the Paediatric Rheumatology team for one day per week. You will require experience of working with children, young people and parents, and ideally experience of working within a chronic health setting. You will work as part of a multidisciplinary team, consisting of Consultant Paediatricians, specialist nurses and physiotherapists. The paediatric MDT team is very supportive and friendly, and active in research and national projects. The work will include individual appointments, multi-disciplinary liaison, and service development/research. Experience of working within an therapy model or systemic therapy would be beneficial.

    Main duties of the job

    This post would be ideal for both experienced and newly qualified Psychologists with an interest in Health Psychology and wishing to work across the lifespan. We would appoint newly qualified staff on a Band 7/ 8A preceptorship, and candidates with experience would be appointed at a Band 8A. Part time applications would be considered.

    The roles will include a range of activities including:

  • Psychological assessment and treatment (online and face to face) both in dedicated psychology clinics and jointly with other members of the multidisciplinary team
  • Working alongside a psychologically minded MDT
  • Developing and delivering psychologically informed interventions (individual and group based)
  • Training, supervision of MDT as appropriate.
  • Development of self-help materials
  • Involvement in service development and collaborating across services to enhance patient care
  • Opportunities to be involved in research,
  • Supporting the UEA Clinical Psychology Doctoral programme through placements, teaching and research.
  • Wider teaching opportunities
  • The Pain Management service is based at Adelaide Street Health Centre and there will be an occasional requirement to attend meetings at the Norfolk and Norwich Hospital main site on Colney Lane. The Rheumatology post is based at NNUH site.

    The post-holder will be expected to contribute to the development of Clinical Psychology across the Trust.

  • Registration with the HCPC as a Practitioner Psychologist
  • Post-graduate doctorate (or its equivalent for those trained prior to 1996) in Clinical Psychology
  • Experience

  • Experience of exercising clinical responsibility for client's psychological care and treatment, within the context of a multi-disciplinary team.
  • Experience of the application of psychology in different cultural contexts
  • Skills

    Essential

  • A high level ability to communicate effectively (both written and oral) complex, highly technical and clinically sensitive information to clients, their families carers and a wide range of lay and professional persons within and outside the NHS.
  • Skills in the use of complex methods of psychological assessment, intervention and clinical management, frequently requiring sustained and intense concentration.
