Help us create a better future, quicker

At Scottish Power we know that our people are our strongest asset, so we're always looking for individuals whose energy, intelligence and passion can help us reach our goals.

The Land & Planning Team within Energy Networks gain the appropriate land rights and planning consents required to install and keep installed the distribution and transmission network in order for the business to deliver its statutory obligations and Business Plans.

The key objectives of the post will be to support the delivery of strategic electricity grid infrastructure projects and customer connections, whilst ensuring compliance with Licence Obligations, Statutory Regulations, Company Policies & Contractual commitments.

    What you'll be doing

Working as a Transmission Land Officer you'll secure land rights and other necessary permissions required for the delivery of capital projects on existing and proposed infrastructure developments and customer connection projects, whilst also protecting the existing assets, utilising statutory powers where necessary.

Working as part of a team involved in the delivery of capital projects of significant value, ensuring the necessary landowner agreements are processed to programme and in time to allow the capital spend to be delivered. Negotiating directly with landowners or their agents, balancing the programme driver for success whilst being mindful of regulatory aspects of financial deals being negotiated. Utilising knowledge of both infrastructure characteristics and construction techniques vs. agricultural practices and land values, strike the correct balance of the cost to secure the land rights and compensate for loss against delivery of the programme.

Support the planning of new capital projects in conjunction with environmental, engineering and other relevant internal project teams. Undertaking day to day management of projects and reporting whilst managing all information/correspondence relating to existing and potential landowners in respect to existing and proposed assets, ensuring payments are raised on the payment system and records are updated including Land GIS.

You'll have a requirement to respond to a number of different, often competing challenges in this role. The accountabilities are varied, and a degree of knowledge is required in each area to ensure effectiveness. Proactively contribute to the Company Performance Management Scheme and work with your line manager to develop and meet set objectives.

    What you'll bring

    • Strong experience of project management, preferably being able to demonstrate experience within the utility sector.
    • Strong understanding of the Electricity Act and a working knowledge of the Transmission and Distribution Networks and the individual components such as overhead lines, underground cables and substations
    • Advanced skills & understanding of both agricultural & forestry practices, land valuations, types of land rights and their function, Property Law and the Compensation Code
    • Having relevant experience in the sector you can bring your working knowledge of Energy Networks Policies, procedures and working practices, health and safety and planning and environmental legislation, including but not limited to the Town & Country Planning Act & Environmental Impact Assessment Regulations.
    • Experience of the delivery of large scale or complex land negotiations
    • Ability to devise solutions to complex problems/challenges, including but not limited to agricultural practice mitigations in relation to works on land associated with utility infrastructure construction and the ability to manage competing priorities using sound judgment to determine options and solutions
    • You will have experience of managing short and long-term deliverables, managing and maintaining relationships with, and influencing, senior internal and external stakeholders.

    Minimum Requirements:

    • UK Driving Licence
    • Experience in land, surveying, planning, property, rural, agricultural or utility areas
    • Notwithstanding the above, consideration will be given to any applicants who can demonstrate the key skills for this role based on relevant and demonstrable experience.

    What's in it for you
