    Key responsibilities

    :

    To manage all aspects of the Chain Florey Programme including (but not limited to):

  • Programme Management:Planning and reviewing the programme's progress with the LMS Senior Leadership team, assessing and improving performanceCo-ordinate and prioritise resources across the programme to deliver outcomesManaging the operational delivery of Chain-Florey events, including national outreach eventsDeveloping administrative systems as requiredPlanning for future development and opportunitiesManaging relevant meetings and associated records minutes/actionsData management and reportingManagement of the budgets for the Chain-Florey projects
  • Recruitment and Support for Clinician Scientists:Management of advertising campaigns, supporting shortlisting and interview processesManaging contracts between LMS, Imperial College London, and NHS TrustsProvision of and/or signposting to career advice and educational resources and materialsOn-boarding and support of new recruitsResearch and set up, through use of established networks, training offered to clinicians ensuring their development needs are metOversee the development and delivery of a bespoke training programme for Clinician Scientists, including mentoring and leadership development for postdoctoral clinician scientistsManaging next destination data for LMS Clinician Scientists and supporting the development of an alumni network
  • Networking and communications:Working closely with the LMS communications team to manage the promotion of the Chain Florey Scheme and its opportunitiesInitiate a national outreach programme, highlighting the successes of the programmeRepresent the Chain-Florey clinician scientist training programme and the LMS at relevant external professional forums and events, building a network of supporters and promoters of the schemes

    • About the Chain Florey Programme

    Since 2009, the LMS has been home to the Chain-Florey Clinician Scientist Training Programme, which provides clinicians with the opportunity to undertake discovery research in the outstanding laboratories of the LMS. We have recently redesigned this programme to represent an integrated clinician scientist training pathway that addresses all the gaps and cliff edges that lead to the current significant attrition amongst clinically qualified researchers in training, with 25% of the UK clinician scientist workforce lost over the last 10 years. We aim to further develop the Chain–Florey Programme to provide a wide range of funding supporting the career development of clinician scientists and to build a training and mentoring programme that ensures that they can flourish in their dual career as a clinicians and scientists. Going forward, we also aim to develop outreach opportunities for UK clinician scientists in training outside London and provide access to support, collaboration and mentorship.

    Education / Qualifications / Training required (will be assessed from application form):

    Essential:

  • Postgraduate degree in a relevant subject area

    • Desirable:

  • Project Management or Administration qualification

    • Knowledge required (will be assessed from application form and at interview):

    Essential:

  • An understanding of, and/or passion for clinical medical research and career development support
  • IT software and packages to prepare and deliver progress reports

    • Desirable:

  • An understanding of clinical training in the UK and/or of the higher education system
  • An understanding of the UK research environment
  • Finance management (managing budgets, forecasting and reviewing out-turns)
  • An understanding of people-focused administrative/management processes (recruitment & selection, onboarding), gained through experience

    • Previous work experience required (will be assessed from application form and at interview):

    Essential:

  • Developing strong relationships with team members and key contacts across multiple networks
  • Creating new programmes according to the strategic objectives
  • Managing resources and ensuring timely delivery of programmes
  • Prepare reports and updates to the Director and relevant stakeholders
  • Delivering complex projects to high standards, within budget and to deadlines
  • Experience of working in higher education administration, and/or, the NHS, and/or a research funding body

  • Experience of delivering academic programmes
  • Experience in career development activities
  • Experience of financial management (managing expenditure, purchasing and financial reporting)
  • Experience of event organisation or coordinating conferences / workshops
