    Scientist III-IV, Innovation Group * Innovation to Process Development interface

    We are currently recruiting for a Scientist III-IV to join the Vector & Cell Innovation Group.

    The purpose of this role is to undertake research in molecular biology relating to viral vectors, and aid the transition of new technologies into aspects of larger scale Upstream and Downstream processing of viral vectors.

    The Innovation Group maintains this by driving technological advances in vector design, engineering production cells, and developing small-scale processes.

    The design and execution of small-scale experiments using appropriate molecular biology and tissue culture procedures under the direction of the Group Leader or senior scientist.

    Conduct research and technical support of the highest quality, largely in a single project area but will assist in other projects as the need arises.

    Will maintain an appropriate level of competence in OXB Upstream and/or Downstream platform processes, receiving training by the Process Development department when necessary
    Accountable for own performance in alignment with group objectives and deadlines.
    Minimum MSc Degree with (ideally relevant) experience in industry, or recent PhD Degree in a relevant subject
    Tissue Culture, qPCR, Molecular Biology (cloning) and protein chemistry
    Adaptability and flexibility in switching from R&D projects to Process Development activities as required
    Capable of interpreting results from experiments and drawing conclusions but may need guidance from senior scientists.

    Oxford Biomedica is a quality and innovation-led viral vector CDMO that enables its clients to deliver life-changing therapies to patients around the world.

    Cell and gene therapy is the treatment of disease by the delivery of therapeutic genetic material (DNA or RNA), into a patient's cells.

    One highly effective approach to delivering genetic information is to re-engineer existing viruses to be safe delivery vehicles (vectors) to insert the genetic material into patients' cells.

    This can be achieved either by directly administering the vector to the patient (often referred to as in vivo gene therapy), or by first introducing the genetic material to cells or tissue outside of the body, before administering the cells or tissue into the patient (often referred to as ex vivo gene therapy or gene-modified cell therapy).
