Community Engagement Coordinator - London, United Kingdom - Our Future Health

    Default job background
    Contract
    Description

We have an exciting new opportunity for a Community Engagement Coordinator to help deliver a programme of work to promote Our Future Health in London with an initial focus of East London. You will be working to build long-term relationships with community groups in London, focusing on the South Asian community, to build understanding and trust. As well as having a significant impact in London, your work will also help demonstrate whether this is an approach that can be effective across the UK.

Our Future Health will be the UK's largest ever health research programme, bringing people together to develop new ways to detect, prevent and treat diseases. We are a charity, supported by the UK Government, in partnership with charities and industry. We work closely with the NHS and with public authorities across all nations and regions of the UK.

Our plan is to bring together 5 million volunteers from right across the UK who will be asked to contribute information to help build one of the most detailed pictures we have ever had of people's health. Researchers will be able to use this information to make new discoveries about human health and diseases. So future generations can live in good health for longer.

    What you'll be doing

In this role, you will be responsible for promoting the programme across communities within East London and wider London area. This job is ideally suited to someone who enjoys building relationships with a diverse range of communities and is happy visiting East London and surrounds for 2-3 days per week.

Your key responsibilities will include but not be limited to:

    • Helping support the development of our plans for community engagement, ensuring we are focusing on the areas with the greatest potential for increasing the diversity of the cohort.
    • Building and maintaining relationships, including with faith groups, community groups, the NHS and local government.
    • Organising community engagement events.
    • Visiting and speaking at events held by others.
    • Being an advocate for Our Future Health in meetings with people from under-represented groups.
    • Supporting the delivery of partnerships with a diverse range of stakeholders and community leaders.
    • Championing the continual improvement of our organisational understanding of the barriers to under-represented groups joining our programme.
    • Working with the internal team to coordinate community engagement activity with our recruitment programme.

    Requirements

To succeed, you will have some of the following skills and experience:

    • Experience of working in community engagement programmes, with a focus on delivering tangible results.
    • Experience and understanding of working with under-represented groups.
    • Experience of working with representatives of different ethnic groups and faith groups.
    • Have a dynamic, flexible approach, with excellent organisational skills and attention to detail.
    • Be someone who works well in a busy, changing environment with tight deadlines.
    • The ability to build relationships and work confidently with colleagues and external stakeholders at all levels and from all backgrounds.
    • Good written and oral communication skills with the ability to communicate complex messaging clearly and in a way that is meaningful for different groups of people.
    • Being bilingual would be highly desirable for this role, particularly if you are fluent in Urdu, Bengali or Sylheti.
    • A good understanding of or experience in the health sector would be helpful for this role, although not essential.
    • Experience of engaging with diverse communities about health research would also be beneficial in this role.

    Benefits

    • Up to £35,000 per annum basic salary.
    • Generous company pension package with employer contributions of up to 12%.
    • 30 days annual leave (plus bank holidays).
    • Continuous career development with regular appraisals and learning and development opportunities.
    • A lovely new office in Holborn, Central London – we offer flexible and remote working arrangements.
