About us
Located in West Folkestone just a short walk from theFolkestone Leas the practice provides primary care services toapproximately 13000 patients. We are a training practice with five GP Partners, three salaried GPs, twoACPs, four Practice Nurses and three Health Care Assistants. In addition we have a large complement of PCNclinical staff delivering services to our patients.

JOB DESCRIPTION
PRACTICE NURSE Sandgate Road Surgery
LINE MANAGEMENT
For allclinical matters you will report to the Practice Matron Lead Nurse /PracticePartner.
For allAdministrative matters you will report to the Practice Matron Lead Nurse or PracticeManager as appropriate. Accountable to: NMC
Total Hours perweek: as agreed and in contract
Normal hours ofemployment each week are: as agreed and in contract
The aboveworking days and times may be reviewed and altered from time to time by mutualagreement. The salary for a Whole TimeEquivalent ( per wk) is as agreed and in contract. Actual salary calculated on a pro rata basisin relation to working hour.
RESPONSIBILITIES Nursing
General: To assist medical personnel in the care ofpatients in the surgery and set up preventive care programmes including therunning of various screening procedures and patient education sessions.
1) To carry outgeneral nursing procedures as and when required. 2) Care of equipment and stocking of vaccines, consumables and laboratoryitems. Maintaining a supply of sterile treatment packs. Stock-keeping to bedone in liaison with the practice manager.
3) Collectionof pathological specimens ,including intravenous blood samples; and performingcertain investigations at the request of GPs for example; ECG, Peak flow, spirometry,audiometry 4) Supervision of patients with chronic illnesses. This will include setting upand running various screening and treatment protocols as and when required andmaintaining an appointment and recall system for patients.
5) Preventionwork such as immunizations, cervical cytology, family planning, weightreduction, smoking cessation, cardiovascular risk reduction, fitness promotionand any other designated Health Promotion areas.
6) Assistingand/or chaperoning GPs performing surgical or family planning procedures orexaminations. 7) To attend patients in their homes when requested by a general practitioner. 8) To have regard for the emotional and social needs of patients andcommunicate these perceptions to the relevant member(s) of the PHCT. 9) To be aware and take responsibility for personal safety in performingprocedures and to identify and recommend safe procedures to be adopted in thepractice. Administrative 1) Keeping full and accurate notes in the patient's records and/or in any otherfrom used in the practice, of all consultationsand treatments. 2) Co-operation with any practice research projects. 3) The collection and collation of any relevant data far compiling practice reports. 4) Identification (in conjunction with the practice nurse manager/practice manager if necessary) of anydeficiency in the practices target for 100% success in preventive and surveillanceprotocols and anticipate the measures needed to rectify the deficit.
5) Attendingpractice meetings as required.
6) Maintainingequipment in GP rooms and treatment rooms. 7) Maintaining stocks of sterile supplies for use by GP's and nurses. 8) Ensure payments for private treatments are paid by the patients beforetreatment is given. Also, ensure all activity relating to NHS claims andreimbursement are properly coded and recorded.
9) Identifyingcare needs within the practice population by undertaking a practice profile orsimilar exercise and organising work to best meet the needs identified. 10) Ability to demonstrate the rationale behind the various methods chosen tomeet care needs of patients, to evaluate those methods and change them asnecessary.
Educational 1) To participate in any further education/training deemed useful or necessary.
2) To use opportunities to educate patients in theirabilities to help themselves and to reinforce education from other healthsources. 3) To be involved as required in the teaching and training of other health carepersonnel attached to or visiting the Practice. Personal 1) Being accountable professionally for your individual actions. 2) Maintaining self respect and the respect of others with a conscientiousprofessional attitude. Other staff: 1) Effective liaison and interaction with other staff concerned with thePatient's care, with appropriate regard to confidentiality. 2) Maintaining effective lines of communication with all other practice staffto reduce the risk of confusion and increasethe efficiency of our provision of primary health care services. 3) Pro-actively promoting good relations with all other practice staff throughfriendliness good humour encouragement and respect. 4) To avoid significant deviation from normal practice clinical oradministrative procedures without first having discussed and agreed proposedchanges with your colleagues and subsequently obtaining approval from theDoctors or the Practice Manager. 5) Remember that care of patients ultimately rests with the general practitioner with whom they areregistered and that patient care can only be undertaken with the certainknowledge that the GP concerned has requested this either directly or as partof the practice policy.
