    Highcroft Surgery Job Summary

    We are a friendly GP surgery looking for an enthusiastic and experienced Practice Nurse who is looking to progress their career in General Practice. We have a very supportive, flexible, forward thinking nursing and HCA team and pride ourselves on strong team working.

    We require someone to work a minimum of 30 hours over 4 days per week but also welcome applicants looking for full time hours.

    We offer evening nursing appointments on a Tuesday and Wednesday and therefore the successful applicant will be required to work one night per week until 8.00pm.

    Full or part time hours to be negotiated.

    Highcroft Surgery in Arnold is a dynamic, fast paced, forward thinking GP Practice serving 12,000 patients.

    Practice Summary:
    • Well established GP practice, located in Arnold Town Centre
    • Teaching/training practice
    • Onsite staff parking
    • Part of Arnold and Calverton Primary Care Network
    • Rated Good by CQC in September 2021
    • Non-Clinical team comprising of one Practice Manager, one Operations Manager, two Reception Supervisors, seven Receptionists, six Administrators, three Cleaners and one Caretaker
    • Clinical team comprising of three GP Partners, one Advanced Nurse Practitioner Partner, two Salaried GPs, two Practice Nurses, one Trainee Nurse Associate, three Health Care Assistants, in addition to one Clinical Pharmacist, one Pharmacy Technician, one Mental Health Practitioner and one First Contact Physiotherapist as part of the PCN

    Job Description/Responsibilities

    • To provide nursing services to the practice population by assessment, planning, implementation and evaluation of care
    • To ensure the provision of a high-quality patient service within a safe, efficient working environment by providing effective support to the Partners and staff and encouraging the development and progress of Highcroft Surgery
    • Maintaining appropriate records to ensure continuity and quality of care for patients
    • To collaborate with other GP Partners/employees and practice staff on development and delivery of PBC (Practice Based Commissioning) and enhanced service issues within Highcroft Surgery
    • To be involved in practice development, identifying service changes and developments in line with clinical needs locally and work to develop these as part of PBC and other processes
    • Maintaining records of appointments and other administrative duties
    • To maintain skills and undertake such training and development as may from time-to-time be required to maintain personal competency
    Location:
    • Highcroft Surgery, but you may be asked to travel for meetings and training or provide cover for another practice or Primary Care Network at such notice.
    Working Hours:
    • Hours of work will be detailed in your contract of employment
    Role Specific Duties:
    • To provide assessment, treatment, screening, health education services and advice working in accordance with the NMC Code of conduct
    • Provide nursing treatments to patients independently or in participation with other clinical colleagues working to agreed protocols and guidelines
    • Provide general and specific health screenings to the practice patients within agreed protocols and guidelines referring to other members of the clinical team as necessary
    • To manage patients with chronic diseases; running specific clinic sessions and maintaining robust call and recall systems
    • Participate in national screening work such as cervical cytology and meet targets delivering the national immunisation and vaccination schedule
    Nursing procedures to include:
    • Wound management
    • Measuring blood pressure
    • Routine injections as prescribed
    • Cervical smears
    • ECG's
    • Ear syringing
    • Vaccinations and immunisations
    • Assisting with minor surgery and IUCD insertion
    • Provide advice to patients for general health care and minor ailments, with referral to another clinician as necessary
    • To participate in research within the practice
    • To be responsible for the efficient running of the treatment room and equipment
    • To assist with the management of leg ulcers
    • Select, carry out and interpret results of specific tests
    • Ensure all statutory regulations (e.g. Infection control, Health & Safety, COSHH, etc) are implemented and adhered to
    • To maintain accurate, comprehensive records of all consultations and treatments in the patient's notes, both written and computerised
    • Ensure accurate completion of all necessary documentation associated with patient health care and registration with the practice
    • Ensure collection of statistical information is required for regular and ad hoc reports
    • To have working knowledge of equipment used in the surgery
    • Ensure compliance with patient confidentiality at all times in line with current legislation
    • Contribute to the development of new patient services
    • Inform your line manager of any reported or suspected failings in the provision of care within the practice
    Working with Others:
    • Evaluate and adapt care using evidence-based practice in consultation with colleagues as a forum for team education, development and audit
    • To set up new clinics and monitor existing clinics to ensure smooth running and collection of statistics
    • To participate in the education of students of all disciplines
    • To be actively involved and engaged in practice and wider team meetings and forums to promote communication and development
    • Attend and participate in practice and staff meetings as appropriate
    • Maintain effective liaison with other agencies and staff concerned with patient care, including other disciplines within the practice, whilst maintaining confidentiality
    • In participation with colleagues, ensure the maintenance of equipment and stock levels relating to patient care
    • To act as a chaperone as requested by clinicians
    • To function as an integral part of the Highcroft Surgery team
    Leading by Example:
    • To participate in the induction programme of staff new joining Highcroft Surgery
    • Participate in developing the philosophy, goals and objectives for health care provided by Highcroft Surgery
    • Participate in patient audits
    • Ensure that patients' rights are protected
    • To have the ability to work on own initiative, acknowledging limitations and recognising when referral is needed
    • Using evidence-based practice to assist in the formulation of practice philosophy, strategy and policy
    • To supervise the nursing duties and activities within the surgery
    • Participate in developing the philosophy, goals and objectives for health care provided by Highcroft Surgery
    • Participate in the assessment of the effectiveness of health care provided by the practice
    • Promote and participate in a high standard of care within the practice
    • To promote a professional approach at all times by attire and attitude to patients and staff both in and out of the practice
    Personal Responsibilities:
    • To have knowledge of and act at all times within the boundaries of Health and Safety legislation, Data Protection Acts and Care Quality Commission compliance requirements
    • Provide information for a DBS check, and inform the practice of any incident that may change the DBS status
    • Be responsible for your own Health & Safety
    • Work within your personal competence
    • Promote and participate in a high standard of care within Highcroft Surgery
    • Participate in taking care of your own Health & Safety. Ensure that you do not do anything to compromise the health and safety of either colleagues or yourself.

    • RGN NMC Registered Other Post Registration Qualifications & Training
    • Minimum two years post qualifying experience
    Desirable
    • Non-medical prescribing qualification

    • Minimum one year working in General Practice
    • Ability to support patients to change lifestyles
    • Treatment room skills including wound care
    • Chronic disease management including respiratory
    • Knowledge of current General Practice environment
    • Knowledge of Clinical Governance issues in Primary Care
    Desirable
    • Experience of working in multidisciplinary team
    • Experience of managing QOF
    • Experience of undertaking audits
    • Knowledge of TPP SystmOne Clinical System
    • Knowledge of Ardens templates
    • Ability to implement learning in practice and inform others
