    Description

    What's the role?

    This is a full-time opportunity for a legal counsel position dedicated to supporting Shell companies with real estate interests in the UK. The real estate portfolio of Shell includes various properties such as petrol stations, pipelines, tank farms, aviation facilities, and offices. This dynamic role offers the chance to contribute to Shell's role in the energy transition by supporting the roll-out of innovative services for new and existing customers within the Mobility sector. This includes enhancing EV charging and hydrogen offerings on Retail sites and other New Energies projects.

    As a Legal Counsel, you will collaborate with a team of lawyers across the UK and Europe to provide legal advice to different business units within Shell's real estate sector. The UK team consists of 2 other real estate lawyers and 1 deeds administrator.

    Specifically, you will:

    • Collaborate with legal staff, Real Estate, and various business teams as needed
    • Assist the Litigation team with property litigation matters
    • Drive improvements and efficiencies in UK Property operations
    • Propose and execute legal resourcing plans and enhancements
    • Share knowledge and experiences within the team for continuous improvement
    • Implement working principles with a focus on Ethics & Compliance (E&C), Health, Safety, Security, and Environment (HSSE), and Diversity, Equity & Inclusion (DE&I)
    • Ensure appropriate controls are integrated into business and legal processes
    • Oversee and coordinate external counsel as necessary

    What we need from you

    If you are an English qualified lawyer with:

    • Experience in English property law, particularly in commercial landlord and tenant matters
    • Knowledge of planning and environmental law
    • Strategic thinking abilities with a focus on short and long-term impacts
    • Proven adaptability to work in new areas creatively and sensibly
    • Strong networking skills across internal and external stakeholders
    • Track record as a team player with the ability to manage a diverse case load
    • Good risk and reputational management capabilities
    • Excellent communication skills both written and verbal
