    Band - Deputy Clinical Nurse Specialist- structrual heart disease

    The Structural heart disease service at St Thomas' is a busy, thriving and ever extending department.

    If you are a highly motivated and experienced cardiology nurse with good communication skills and are interested in an opportunity to further develop your clinical skills this could be the job for you, working within a renowned and innovative multi-disciplinary team at one of the UK's leading teaching hospitals in the heart of London.

    The structural heart disease CNS team look after patients having transcatheter therapies for aortic, mitral and tricuspid disease.

    The deputy clinical nurse specialist will play a pivotal role in delivering safe and efficient care by optimising patients for their procedures and ensuring they are ready for a safe discharge post procedure.


    As a deputy CNS you will play an important role in assessing patients for procedures in our Cardiac Catheter Laboratory.

    You will also be involved in the follow up care of patients including running clinics for patients both before and after their procedures.

    Close collaboration with Anaesthetics in regards to patient safety and planning of care for complex cases
    Running post procedure follow up clinic clinic (Nurse led)
    Clinical support and advice lines for for structural heart disease patients (Telephone)

    Collaboration with referring hospital, admitting Consultant and Admissions to ensure patient is transferred in a timely way and reduce length of stay as far as possible.

    Independently manage a group of patients within the specialty whilst working as part of the multidisciplinary team, delivering individualised and personalised direct patient care
    Demonstrate appropriate practice and specialist advice in the assessment, planning, implementation and evaluation of patient care. This includes history taking, physical examination and the requesting of agreed diagnostic procedures/clinical investigations
    To be able to review patients both over the phone and in person in order to fully assess their needs and to help formulate a plan
    To work with the multi-disciplinary team in order to deliver excellent patient care

    Ability to assess, plan, implement and evaluate specialist care delivered to patients/clients and give relevant advice/information to patients and relatives.

    An understanding of audit and research based nursing practice
    To include dealing with distressed relatives, care of terminally ill & other challenging situations
    Ability to organise and plan own time and that of junior staff and learners.

    Evidence of professional/clinical knowledge in area supplemented by specialist clinical, managerial training and CPD
    BSC/1st degree (health related) or equivalent qualification/training and experience
    RN1/ RN2/ RN12 or RN Child Registered Nurse on the NMC register. Guy's and St Thomas' NHS Foundation Trust
