  • Job description
  • You will be responsible for the regulation and enforcement of sites covered by the Environmental Permitting Regulations (EPR) and use your influencing and negotiating skills to secure best practice and compliance.

As an Installations Officer you will spend 50% of your time regulating process industry sites in sectors such as Food & Drink, Chemicals, Combustion, Landfill, and Hazardous Waste.

The other 50% of your time will be regulating sites using non-nuclear radioactive substances in a range of sectors including industrial, research and medical.

You will be making a real contribution in your role to protect the environment and people and will work with people from a varied and diverse range of organisations and industries.

You will undertake a range of site-based inspections and audits together with assessment of emissions and other monitoring data to check compliance against permit conditions and other environmental legislation.

Responding to incidents is a central part of what we do.

You will be required to have an incident role and make yourself available to respond to incidents or provide business continuity support during an incident.

This may attract an additional payment and full training and alternative working arrangements will be available to support you with your incident role.

You'll be based at either the Norwich or Ely Environment Agency offices.
The team- You will be part of the Installations/RSR Team based in East Anglia.

We are responsible for Process Industry regulation in Norfolk and Non-Nuclear Radioactive Substances regulation across East Anglia, Lincolnshire, and Northamptonshire.

The team is one of three Installations teams in the area.

Our team influences the environment in a positive way - not just in the short term but also influencing future trends.


  • Experience/skills required
  • You must have relevant experience in a regulatory or industrial role, demonstrating strong communication skills and the ability to take a riskbased approach to your decision making and work planning.
Educated to degree level or equivalent with a good understanding of either radiological and/or environmental issues.
A full UK driving licence is essential.
You will be willing to undertake specialist/or further training when necessary.
Legal, regulatory, and technical training will be provided as necessary, as will opportunities for relevant continuous professional development.
