    We are looking for an enthusiastic and innovative individual to join our expanding pharmacy team. The team at Sheffield Teaching Hospital NHSFT comprises of approximately 500 pharmacy staff working across five sites.

    Our inclusive and diverse pharmacy department has a strong clinical presence in all areas. We are innovative and forward-thinking and have invested in a host of technical improvements, including robotics and a state of the art, multi-million-pound technical services unit. We offer a wide range of roles across different areas of the service including clinical ward services, aseptic services, homecare, medicines supply, medicines information, medicines governance, education & training, clinical trials, and research.

    Main duties of the job An exciting opportunity has arisen for an experienced and highly motivated pharmacist with a passion for education and training to lead our friendly and enthusiastic pharmacist education and training team at Sheffield Teaching Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust (STHFT).

    The education and training team are responsible for supporting and developing structured training for undergraduate pharmacy student placements, trainee pharmacists, foundation pharmacists and advanced practice pharmacists. We have established links with the Universities of Bradford and Huddersfield, NHS England and the South Yorkshire Integrated Care Board, and we work collaboratively with them on various projects and initiatives.

    The post is split between education and training responsibilities (50%), principal pharmacist duties, staff management and clinical pharmacy provision. You will line manage band 6 foundation pharmacists and band 8a education and training pharmacists. As a member of the principal pharmacist team, you will contribute to the organisation, leadership and development of clinical pharmacy and on-call shift services, ensure best use of resources available to maximise patient benefit, and ensure appropriate provision of pharmacy department cover.     • MPharm degree
    • Registered Pharmacist with the General Pharmaceutical Council
    • Higher degree/Post-graduate diploma in Clinical Pharmacy or equivalent postgraduate diploma in specialist area
    • Appropriate Short Management Courses e.g. Appraisal training, absence management
    • Evidence of continuing professional development
    • Evidence of working at doctorate level
    Desirable
    • Post-graduate Masters in Clinical Pharmacy (or equivalent qualification/experience)
    • Registered Independent Prescriber
    • Management, leadership or educational qualification
    Experience Essential
    • Extensive clinical experience post qualification in secondary care. Including in depth experience in a clinical speciality and leadership of clinical pharmacy services within that area
    • Experience of supervision, mentorship, or management of staff.
    • Experience of implementing HR policies and supporting staff wellbeing
    • Experience of leadership, delivery, and evaluation of pharmacy projects with multidisciplinary implications
    • Experience of fast paced and stressful working environment due to urgent interruptions for advice
    • Ability work independently and have own accountability for professional actions
    • Experience of planning, delivering, and evaluating pharmacy education and training programmes
    Desirable
    • Experience of working with educational institutions
    • Experience of participation in local, regional, and national education workstreams
    Skills and Knowledge Essential
    • Have excellent communication skills non-verbal, verbal and written in order to communicate with a broad spectrum of people (from senior directorate managers to members of the public).
    • Demonstrate excellent leadership skills
    • Able to supervise and manage the recruitment, ongoing training, and performance appraisal of staff.
    • Manages difficult and ambiguous problems.
    • To adopt a flexible working attitude to the needs of the patient and the pharmacy department. and identifies a vision for the delivery of pharmaceutical care.
    • Able to use research findings to develop services and patient care, managing therapeutic problems and reducing risks (often in areas where information is limited or conflicting)
    • Able to evaluate best practice and apply research findings to practice, promoting evidence-based practice within the Trust
    • Ability to identify and prioritise clinical pharmacy services
    • Identifies and implements best practice
    • Able to articulate complex information and present clearly to healthcare staff and patients
    • Self-motivating to develop services and motivate other members of the team
    • Ability to influence practice at a department level using innovative practice
    • Ability to delegate authority appropriately.
    • Ability to sustain prolonged concentration despite unpredictable workload
    • Able to analyse complex data/information to identify improvements to pharmacy services in the Trust
    • Ability to plan and organise own and others workload to achieve clinical objectives
    • Excellent verbal, numerical and written communication skills
    • Developed IT skills/ experience with use of a Clinical Information System (CIS)
    • Ability to develop good working relationships across traditional boundaries, eg, primary/secondary/tertiary care
    • Demonstrates advanced level of clinical reasoning and is able to manage difficult and ambiguous problems eg medication for individual patients
