    The University Occupational Health Service (UOHS) is an essential function within Human Resources and plays a key role in ensuring the optimum health and safety of employees, as well as contributing to a wider wellbeing approach, and working with colleagues on maintain legislative compliance.

    As an Occupational Health Clinic Nurse you will be part of a friendly team of clinical, professional and support staff providing comprehensive health and safety support, guidance and activities to all sectors of the University.

Hybrid working is available, with the working pattern to be to discussed at interview. About the role UOHS is part of the Human Resources department within University Administration and Services. It provides advice and services on all aspects of occupational health within the University, including to some student groups.

    Key activities include (but are not confined to):

    • Providing health screening services to University staff, researchers and certain groups of students.
    • Undertaking occupational screening / health surveillance programs, inclusive of vaccinations (in accordance with health and safety legislation), spirometry, and audiometry as examples, with the requirement to interpret results and advise accordingly.
    • Assisting in the pre-employment health assessment process for medical students, including administering vaccinations and venepuncture.
    • Assisting in the administration of travel vaccinations, where required, under the instruction of a Specialist Practitioner or physician.
    • Liaising with staff from other service departments including, for example, the Safety Officers.
    • Maintaining accurate contemporaneous electronic records regarding clinical activity in accordance with University policies and guidance from professional bodies.
    • Identifying and monitoring any local adverse trends in case Health Surveillance and escalate to Head of Occupational Health.
    • To actively participate in team meetings, 1:1 meetings and supervision/observed practice and performance development reviews.
    • To support and attend training and promotion opportunities for Occupational Health and Health surveillance initiatives under the guidance of the Head of Occupational Health.
    • Assisting the Head of Occupational Health to make service improvements and undertake any project work as requested.
    • Contributing to the regular review of policies and procedures.
    • Attending meetings within the University as deemed necessary by the Head of Occupational Health.

    In addition, the Occupational Health Clinic Nurse will:

    • Be a competent, experienced and autonomous practitioner who is accountable for their own actions and able to make competent clinical judgments regarding occupational health issues.
    • Adhere to the NMC or other relevant bodies Professional Code of Conduct and their Guidelines.
    • Ensure the health and safety of self and others whilst at work.
    • Maintain high standards of confidentiality, protecting personal identifiable and sensitive information.
    • Treat all contacts and staff equally, with dignity and respect.
    • Maintain records and documents appropriately, ensuring that all aspects of professional practice and data protection legislation are followed and adhered to.
    • Take personal responsibility for keeping themselves updated in all aspects of occupational health and safety practice specific (but not exclusive) to your role and in line with the NMC revalidations requirements.

    • RGN with current registration with the Nursing and Midwifery Council (NMC) Part 1 on the register
    • Fully up to date, with relevant certificates of training competence, for Vaccinations and Phlebotomy and able to commence these activities immediately without additional training
    • Able to demonstrate a clear understanding of professional accountability in the scope of professional practice
    • Ability to work autonomously, using own initiative, as well as working collaboratively with a wider team
    • Ability to keep appropriate, thorough and accurate client case notes ensuring compliance with confidentiality, professional standards and data protection legislation
    • Must be organised with the ability to plan and prioritise work activities
    • Committed to continuing professional development (inclusive of undertaking courses to enable fulfilment of the role such as Audiometry, and Spirometry
    • Clear knowledge of evidence-based practice and demonstrate evidence of this
    • Excellent written and verbally communications skills
    • Good IT skills in Microsoft office, PowerPoint, etc
    • Must be prepared to travel to satellite clinics as required Desirable selection criteria
    • Up to date training and certification of competence in Audiometry and Spirometry
    • Good understanding of the requirement for Heath surveillance and other Government body legislation and guidance
    • Knowledge and experience of working in higher education/research/laboratory environments
