    Job summary

    We are looking to recruit an enthusiastic Clinical Psychologist to join our paediatric psychology team to serve the needs of young people with Epilepsy and Non-Epileptic Seizures, and another paediatric speciality such as Gastroenterology. In the near future, we are also likely to be recruiting to another paediatric post in Healthy Weight and NICU, so please apply if that is of interest too. Although this is a band 8A post, it is also open to newly qualified psychologists as a band 7 as part of our 18 month preceptorship. Newly qualified staff who are yet to be HCPC registered would temporarily be appointed on Band 6. Experience in Paediatrics is desirable but not absolutely necessary.

    This is an exciting opportunity to join a vibrant, friendly and supportive psychology and multi-disciplinary teams in the Paediatric Department at the Norfolk and Norwich Hospital. We have a growing team of Clinical Psychologists working in the Paediatric specialties of Diabetes, Gastroenterology, Cystic Fibrosis, Oncology, Rheumatology, NICU and Childhood Obesity; with ambition to expand.

    Main duties of the job

    The post will include outpatient and inpatient work with children and their carers; and liaising with MDT colleagues to assess and treat psychological issues arising from epilepsy and non-epileptic type seizures. It is an exciting opportunity to help develop and shape the newly developed Epilepsy service. The post holder will have opportunities to supervise colleagues, trainees, work with initiatives within the wider department and complete audit and research projects.

    There will be opportunities to have a Clinical Psychology trainee, if appropriate for your stage of qualification.

    Job responsibilities

    The epilepsy psychology service has recently been commissioned to support the psychological needs of young people with epilepsy and non-epileptic type seizures. As well as assessment and therapy for families, the post holder will offer advice, consultation and training to the wider team. It is essential that the successful applicant is a strong team player, working well as an integrated part of different multidisciplinary teams, consisting of Consultant Physicians, specialist nurses, dieticians, physiotherapists and pharmacists. The work will include individual and family appointments, in-patient work, multi-disciplinary liaison, consultation to the wider team; as well as opportunities for research and service development. The post holder will work closely with an 8B Clinical Psychologist and Assistant Psychologist and will have opportunities to help shape the recently commissioned service. The epilepsy team within the hospital are very pro-psychology.

    Person Specification

    Qualifications

    Essential

  • Registration with the HCPC as a Practitioner Psychologist
  • Post-graduate doctorate (or its equivalent for those trained prior to 1996) in Clinical Psychology

    • Desirable

  • Post-doctoral training in one or more additional specialised areas of psychological practice (cognitive behavioural therapy, family therapy etc.)

  • Demonstrable understanding of the implications of long term conditions and disability for either adults, children, young people and their families (as applicable in the speciality).
